Also to those looking at Bayern and PSG.

Having thought about it, assuming they were offered, they would have considered it, don't be naive enough to think they wouldn't. However there are some big factors which separate those clubs from Chelsea and City:

Bayern - Here is the 50+1 rule of the Bundesliga - In order to obtain a license to compete in the Bundesliga, a club must hold a majority of its own voting rights. The rule is designed to ensure that the club's members retain overall control, by way of owning 50% of shares, +1 share, protecting clubs from the influence of external investors.

PSG - They finally have influence with UEFA, they have a seat on the executive board and via beIN their owners have invested too much in the CL already to simply walk away at this point.

There were some massive hurdles for those clubs which probably made it a no go, had they not had those, I don't believe for second they wouldn't have been persuaded to sign up, the same way Chelsea and City were.
It's worth noting too that neither of those two teams had the pressure of being left in the dust by domestic rivals, like City, Chelsea, Inter, and Atlético would have been. PSG and Bayern could both have afforded to sit and wait.

Militant little crybabies getting aggressive with anyone who doesn't pick up their pitchfork, pathetic. Anyone trying that with me will be swiftly told where to take it. I'm big enough to make my own mind up thank you. You do your protests and walk out of the club by all means, your choice, don't get pissy because people are mature enough look at it more rationally than you.

You mean 7 times European Champions AC Milan and three times European Champions Inter - Get in the bin you fucking weirdo

The premier league did and still does have relegation as far as I am aware and not a closed shop

it is still a competition which the likes of Leicester City can win

it is still a competition where the likes of West Ham or Everton can qualify for the main European competition

it is still a competition where Wolves can qualify for Europe

the Super dooper league would not have been a competition and fair it would have been an American version where the select few are invited

City were not a major player who could sway the PL but could with the Shit league and it is City and City alone I give a fuck about
The ESL said 5 teams per season would be added to the 15 perennials. That's more than the 3 promoted/relegated teams the PL currently has, so my point stands.... I don't get why fans had no issue with the money grabbing PL, but have an issue with the money grabbing ESL?

Like you, I couldn't give a fuck about any other team bar City, so if City feel to explore the opportunity as they did with the PL, what's the problem?

Jesus - the melodrama from some on here is off the scale!

Which morally upstanding custodians of the game do you suggest should be punishing us exactly?

People do realise football has been governed by business interests rather than community good pretty much since the off, don’t they? And the pace of that commercialisation has only been accelerated beyond recognition since 1992 and the creation of the PL - which last ripped out the fabric of football as it had stood for 100s of years just 29 years ago.

Anyone who still believes club owners view their fans as anything other than customers to be commercially exploited is living in some sort of alternative fantasy version of reality, where clubs are some sort of cooperative or ‘business for good’, bound to consult its members and consider their opinions before making decisions.

That rose tinted version of the game died a long time ago - if it ever existed in reality.

Look at the people behind the FA, the PL and UEFA and ask yourself if any of these represents ‘the historic fabric of football’ - are these the cretins we should somehow be clamouring your protect?

UEFA, with Gill, Tebas, Rummenigge, Watzke and al-Khelaifi on their side - who existentially hate competition and are solidly driven by protecting their own interests. Who have spent the last decade trying to cripple our club to serve the interests of a handful of clubs with no interest in the integrity of the game.

Or the PL, with their United and Liverpool appointed yes-man running the show, and clubs like Leicester, Wolves, Burnley, etc who signed a letter only last season to try and get us thrown out of elite competition for good.

Fuck them all - if they had been shafted, I’d have lost absolutely zero sleep over their collective fates. Bunch of fucking self serving shysters deserve everything they get.

Do I lament the loss of football’s soul? Absolutely.

Do I think it exists anywhere amongst the entities we were considering fucking over through the ESL? Not a chance.

I hated the ESL - but not because I felt there was somehow a ‘do the right thing’ option lurking in the corrupted hearts of the PL or UEFA. It was just further evidence of the moral bankruptcy of the game.

Punishing us would be a monumental act of hypocrisy - they can get fucked with their faux outrage and entitlement, when they’d all jump at the same thing given half the chance.
