The clubs don't hold all the cards though. You say they don't need the PL but the PL needs them, this isn't true. The PL would be substantially weaker without them clearly but they'd survive, football would continue for the rest of the teams, if the founding 6 don't have the PL though they have nothing, a club can't exist without a domestic league to compete in. sure they can attempt to create a super league between themselves in its void but that's not sustainable for anybody.

The PL and the FA (and the Spanish and Italian equivalent) actually hold the aces here they just have to be bold enough to stick to their threats with regards to expelling clubs from the league and call their bluff.

You can actually see a world where the American owned clubs might still want to push through with it and risk expulsion but they'll be at least one that buckles and many others will quickly follow. especially so when fan pressure starts, and covid or not you can be sure they'll be literal riots outside all 12 stadiums if that became a genuine possibility.

If the PL, FA, UEFA and everyone else involved in that statement stick to what they say and the super league group stick to their proposal, there's only one winner here and City aren't on the right side of it

This is just the beginning of what will happen after the pandemic. The elite and money classes making a bid for the available world riches while the working classes have their backs turned. I know this is simplistic, but it is happening. The rich have never stopped going on holidays, small airports full of people jetting off in private planes, rich people moving out of London and swallowing up properties in the North for peanuts. Basically the working classes are f.....d again. Football was the available outlet, now they’ve stolen that.

Sorry - but this is the response of a romantic. Elite football is all about financial strength now. Sad but true. The breakaway clubs have this; the devalued domestic leagues do not. A breakaway 20-team league comprising of most of the world's best-recognised club names is stronger than any domestic tournament. I stand by the reasoning outlined in my earlier post (No.2548).

You're failing to factor in fans impact. Football in its current form is all about financial strength because they've got a product everybody wants to see and buy into. This super league has been globally condemned, nobody wants it and without the fans paying for it, the sponsorship doesn't exist and the whole thing dies.

They might be able to generate enough interest in the likes of China and Asia to subsidise the total lack of interest in Europe to start with but those fans are short terms fans, they'll be the type of fan that changes club every year depending on who's winning they have no layalty or affiliation to a club so when competition and winning becomes a secondary concern those fans will get bored very quickly and leave in their droves and then they're left with nothing.

That maybe the case, but it may not.

Anything though that curtails UEFAs power i approve off though. The PL also have a vested interest in keeping the clubs in the PL and it is feasible to do both.

The one area that will suffer is international football, which personally i couldnt give a fuck about.

My initial horror at the proposal has been replaced with one of lets see how it pans out. It could well be amazing for football, but equally it could be the end of domestic football.

If it is planned to be the pinacle of the pyramid then I am fine with that, if it is closed as you say then i have reservations, but i am not going to dismiss it out of hand based on so little evidence and knowledge of what is actually being proposed.

• The plan would guarantee massive income to a 15 club elite and cement financial gaps not only between those competing in the Super league and those not, but within it. The plan envisages one off payments of up to €350 million to the fifteen founder members, but only six clubs would receive the full amount with five of the initial members receiving just €100 or €112.5 million.

• The 15 breakaway clubs have generously deigned to allow 5 merit based qualifiers each season. But the system is totally skewed against them. They have no say in running the Super League and are entirely excluded from a commercial pot worth 15% of income. Moreover, there is an 'equal' share of revenue that is not equal at all. The qualifiers are excluded from half of this pot of money (worth around €1.85 BILLION)

• At the same time, the organisers have shown their contempt for rewarding sporting success. You get given a ton of money for playing (about €180m for the group stage), but prize money is quite small - worth perhaps €30m extra for winning it. Which is small change, really. If you win the Champions League, by contrast, you earn about €120million - or 300% more than just making the group stage

• At the same time, if, say Leicester or Everton, were to qualify and actually win it - despite everything being skewed against them - they would earn around half the amount Barca or Real would be guaranteed JUST FOR COMPETING IN THE GROUP STAGE. Essentially this has been devised by a cabal of greedy, stupid and desperate individuals who care nothing about football, competitiveness or the sustainability of the game. It will kill domestic football and create a boring spectacle skewed in favour of a Super League 'big 6

IF City and the PL 6 teams get in AND get to stay in the Premier League, they would be absolutely MINTED. Would make the league very strong, especially those 6.

I can't see the PL actually excluding them, they will back down.

Premier Leagye votes require 14 votes to get anything done. There have been numerous iterations of new formats, competitions, and revenue agreements. It is no coincidence that 14 clubs have voted against them.

It’s going to be an interesting week, especially silly with 2 of the 6 starting in one the English Football’s showcase events at the weekend!

Wonder what “official” banners will be on display at that game from the limited number of fans?!
