Nearly every team we've played so far has put 10 men behind the ball. The games we have coming up will be against teams who will try to attack us, which means we'll probably score more goals and concede more goals as well. I think against teams like Everton and Southampton we'll play better football with more space to play into, though our defense might also be more exposed as a result.

Anyway we'll see, our players are still gelling and it's not easy with the tactics we use. I'm sure that we'll improve as the season continues.
Welcome to the top! This is 90% of your games. ;)

Is he still playing that absurd high line? I'm not sure about Spurs this season because they just seem to be getting on with their business under the radar. All the drama in Manchester and the Arsenal giddyness has overshadowed everything. Not scoring much, but also not conceding, and most importantly actually getting results to keep up. The worry must be poor performances after Europa games.

I haven't been watching you so can't comment on what the issues actually are with your attack. Do you create chances and fail to convert or can't you even create chances? Is he being too cautious so as to not lose?

It's something I've been asking myself and can't answer haha. IE do AVB's tactics negatively impact our ability to create chances?

I honestly am not sure. We do play a high line which has had a positive impact defensively. The only team we haven't managed to completely contain is West Ham. On the other hand, that means that we rarely get to counter attack because the opposition rarely breaks out of their own half. Even when they do, we usually don't take advantage of it and we have slow build up play which lets them get back into their defensive shape. Against Hull it was very difficult because they played a 5-4-1, so it made it hard to get our wide players behind their defense.

The problem is that we haven't really seen the movement required to break the other team down. It might be AVB being overly cautious and instructing our own players to stay behind the ball to limit the other team's ability to counterattack. Idk really, it all becomes much more complicated when trying to play possession football imo, because players have to consider their own attacking movements more carefully (whether their positions will leave the team exposed defensively). That's why I think why not just set up to play on the counterattack. It would be so much easier to play a lower block and invite the other team on to us more, then use our pace and creativity (which we do have in Eriksen, Lamela, Holtby, Paulinho, Capoue, etc) to hit teams on the counter. I think it would be more effective but it's not what AVB wants so idk.

Players like Holtby and Sigurdsson looked wonderful before they came here but they have found it difficult to play this way, with more limited time on the ball and less space to play into. Both have steadily improved and gotten more used to the system but to me it still seems like AVB's system inhibits us more than helps. Can't argue with the results and defensive record though. Still remains to be seen whether the new players can gel and our players learn to break down deep defenses, but I think it will take more time than most fans think.

It's interesting to see how many English players Spurs have used so far this season...

...40% of the players Spurs have used so far this season are English and they account for 36% of all appearances and 39% of all goals scored.

I wonder how the other top Premier League clubs would fare?

Well we had Danny Rose and Andros Townsend return from loans, so that's two extra English players for starters.

How is it different?

We didn't have them available to play in 2012-13 but now we do have them in 2013-14.

We didn't need to buy any more English players, as we had two first team players returning from loans at other Premier League clubs.

In addition to the ten English players Spurs have already used so far this season, we have another three who were in first team squads but were unused.

So that's 13 English players in total who have been included in our first team squads so far this season.

I think that compares very favourably with the other top Premier League clubs.

So i take it you did not buy any, Why because top end English players come at a premium. The ones you had were bought for pennies when you did not have the mega bucks you are spending now. Granted some have turned out half decent. 99% of your shoppiong will now be done in Europe
