Spurs did better in the market than City imo

Lamela>Jovetic
Soldado>Negredo
Eriksen>Navas
Paulinho><Fernandinho
Capoue
Chadli
Chiriches

£107M vs £97M

Lamela won't settle - he's too temperamental and has only had one good season.

Soldado is the Spanish Darren Bent - he will have a massive goal draught at some point this season. Negrado is younger, was cheaper, is on less wages and is much much better player as a target man and a goal scorer.

Paulinho - couldn't hack it in Poland. Nuff said.

Eriksen - he really isn't that good, ok movement but he gives the ball away for fun and also passes like a crab (sideways) a lot.

Why do you think no big teams were after any of these players? Either over priced or not good enough.

I think Willian was a great target tbf. Oh wait.

I like their CM but I think they've overdone it a bit with similar players. No versatility there and they're going to be relying on Eriksen for creativity a lot. First test for them on Sunday, lets see how they do. If I were a Spurs fan I would be extremely disappointed if they didn't actually try to win the Europa and domestic cups this year, especially considering we strolled through that competition and won it without a problem (except for Benfica who gave us a game).

Re: The Tottenham Thread 13/14 part 2.

They play with two defensive players every game, It says something when there best attacking player is Andreas fucking Townsend... They are going to miss Bales directness, pace and power dramatically. They won't break teams down.

...and that makes all three.

SPUD6061

That said, we struggled to break teams down at times with Bale in the squad. However, I think that many Spurs fans would agree that what cost us the CL last year was an inability to see out some leads late against a few inferior sides. Especially at the start of the season. The 2 1-nils this year are very much the types of games where we might have dropped points in years past.

Spurs have two defensive midfielders in Sandro and Capoue, they've not started a single game together yet. Paulinho and Dembélé, whilst being strong and capable and willing to tackle, are not in any way defensive midfielders.

You seem to take the piss out of Andros Townsend, yet the assets he brings to the team are directness, pace and power, the same assets you think Spurs are going to miss dramatically.

What Spurs lacked last season was craft, creativity and intelligent and incisive passing. A Silva type player, basically. Eriksen has been brought in to hopefully fill that void.

Lamela has had two good seasons and one fantastic season. Judging a player's ability to settle based on his one successful transfer in his career so far seems pretty crazy to me too.

Soldado scored 82 goals in three years for Valencia, increasing his tally with each passing season. If he replicates that kind of form for Spurs, I think the club will be quite happy. You have no idea how much either Soldado or Negredo (come on, at least spell your own players' names right) are earning and Negredo is only three months younger, hardly worth even mentioning.

How many of Paulinho's games in Poland did you watch? Mhm. Comes in at nearly half the price you paid for Fernandinho, is three years younger, has nearly three times as many international caps as Fernandinho and is arguably Brazil's current first choice midfielder.

Eriksen had just over a 1 goal every 3 games record last season, with 45 assists in 129 games in his time at Ajax. He's only 21 years old. He most likely isn't the finished article yet and as one of the most positionally advanced players in his team, you would expect a lot of his passes to go sideways to players in space when he's not able to play a through ball to his striker, would you not?

No big clubs were interested in Fernandinho, Navas and Negredo either, if you want to go down that route. The only team that showed a genuine interest in Luis Suarez when he desperately wanted to leave was Arsenal, does that make him an average player because the big boys weren't interested?

Are you saying that Townsend will fill the hole left by Bale?!

I really wouldn't want to pass comment on City's transfer dealings this summer, but I can tell you that just about every Spurs fan is over the moon about our transfer window.

And word is that we're not finished yet - there could well be another surprise or two before the deadline.

You still getting that lad who was banging Cheryl Cole?

Well that's a very long list.

Can you be more specific?

Was in the Fugees. Willian something or other.

Do I think Townsend will score the 26 goals that Bale did last season? No, of course not. That's why Spurs have signed Lamela (15 goals last season), Paulinho (1 goal every 4 games for Corinthians), Soldado (30 goals last season) and Eriksen (13 goals last season).

But you never mentioned anything about missing Bale's goals. You said Spurs are going to miss Bale's directness, pace and power. They aren't, because Townsend will give them Bale's directness, pace and power. Had you said that Spurs are going to miss Bale's fairly prolific long range shots and free kicks and goals in general, I wouldn't have argued as you'd be right.
