The UK Smoking Ban

easier to pick up women in the smoking sections.

you also get wrist bands in some clubs, this way you can fuck off elsewhere, come back and not have to pay the entrance fee

have you ever walked down the road and thought fuck that car it should be in its own private area polluting the air.

Many times I have, yes. Pushing my 3 year old niece in her buggy with exhausts that are just at the right height for her to breathe in. Then people wonder why so many kids these days have asthma. So yes, all the time I think "fuck, that car should be in it's own private polluting area".

An excellent point well made. Though seriously, what the shite are you slavering about?

You may well be right, but the question I'm asking is what is the point of singling out smoking for a ban when we're all breathing in all other kindsa shite anyway?

Well smoking isn't banned, its use is controlled in certain environments. There are similar controls on car fumes and nuclear power (the two examples you gave previously).

On that basis smoking is not 'singled out', it is merely subject to appropriate, equivilent controls on its use like the other examples you gave.

What controls are car fumes subject to?

-- Wed Apr 06, 2011 9:06 pm --

Private establishments should be able to establish their own rules and if you don't like them then you don't use that establishment.

Exactly. It should be landlord's/landlady's discretion.

Without a doubt.

your more likely to die from passive asbestos related cancer than tobacco related cancer. The levels of airborne asbestos in the north west region is huge

Dicks don't like to acknowledge things like that though - They'd rather squeal in (percieved rightous) indignation at smokers, for some reason that makes them happy.

I think it is fair to say that like smoking, asbestos has been subject to fairly stringent regulation in recent years to attempt (like smoking) manage a perceived risk as best as possible. I'm sorry if that doesn't fit with your view of how the world should operate.

Where's the controls about car fumes & factory emissions & Chernoble fallout & the million and one other things that we're all breathing in on a daily basis?
