I’m one of those who thinks international football should be our best against their best. That’s the entire point of international football. We don’t draft in Kevin de Bruyne and Rodri to play in midfield because we haven’t got a decent defensive mid or truly creative mid in the squad. We go with what we’ve got with the English lads.
And it should be the same with the manager. He should always be English. It should never have been Sven, never have been Capello and it shouldn’t be Tuchel.
However, until we address the problem we have in England/English football with regards to being bereft of a talent pool of English coaches, I can see why we’d look for a foreign coach.
It costs £3,645 to enrol on an UEFA A Licence course in England and unbelievably costs £9,890 to complete the UEFA Pro Licence. There are also very limited spaces to do the Licences at St George’s Park each year.
That’s why we only have less than 1,800 qualified English coaches.
In Spain they have 15,000+ qualified coaches!
That’s because it costs €960 and €1,070 for the same Licences, respectively.
Something needs to change in England.
But good luck to Tuchel, I hope he does well.
