An investigation is not good, because even if we come out of it as white as the driven snow, the reputational damage is still there.
That's moot. Of course, people will still say we cheated, but they would run a big legal risk both from us and Uefa. If Uefa clear us but the likes of Bayern and the Spanish FA keep chuntering, Uefa might see that as a slight against them. Wouldn't it be ironic if we found ourselves on the same side as Uefa?

Indeed it would, but I'm sure Ray Winstone would give you tasty odds on that happening.

I think the majority view that the investigation marks a new low in relations between City and UEFA may just be way off target. We are all assuming that UEFA are out to do us to appease a baying cartel while we are arming ourselves with writs and the like to give UEFA a working over in the courts.

It might be as well to remember that we have sailed through the FFP assessments ever since 2014, that the first DS revelations appeared last November and that UEFA was as much a target as City because they had conspired with us to circumvent the regulations they had introduced. Infantino refuted the claims while City argued that the claims were based on emails which were obtained illegally and would not comment. There was no conflict between City and UEFA then, but the usual hacks reported that UEFA would take the strongest action if the claims could be proven. This could be the usual nonsense our press prints.

Since then it has emerged that these emails have been produced - maybe even fabricated - by a Potuguese who specialises not only in hacking emails, but also in using them to extort money through blackmail. This charming gentleman had fled to Hungary but only this week found that the Hungarians had agreed to extradite him to Portugal to face trial for these activities. He seems a most unlikely witness to provoke a virtual civil war in club football. In a post on Monday I raised the question of whether he had been foolish enough to try and blackmail City! I wonder now if he has been daft enough to try and blackmail certain UEFA officials as well!

So, UEFA announce an investigation of "reported" FFP breaches, City welcome the process but suggest it will amount to no more than another glance at our accounts, which have already been shown to be "full and complete" and the investigation shows that FFP has succeeded in transforming City into a model of financial propriety. The only wrongdoing is that of a criminal hacker and blackmailer who goes to jail for a very long time and DS has to settle out of court for extensive damage to the reputation of City - and UEFA!

That should deter future troublemakers from dipping into the (murky?!) world football (and UEFA) finance.
Interesting POV. You may be right, time will tell, but the cartel and press supporters will never give up. The criminality of the hacker puts Uefa in a strange position. "Well, City, you need to answer the allegations of this low life".

They spent their own money, not filthy Arab Oil Money.
They spent their (brand new) share holders money. But the share issue led them straight into the arms of the Glazers, whose greedy ways have already started to do them in. (Please).

I've not read this full thread or any of the Der Spiegel stuff, probably as I like to stick my head in a bucket of sand if there is anything unsavoury on the wind.

But I watched the Sunday Supplement this week, and this chap Sam Wallace, appeared to be well abreast of the full Der Spiegel story.

He stated that they were a serious and respected outfit and to hear him speak, he felt there was credence to the allegations.

He was pushed by Ashton, for his view on the legality of hacked e-mails, to which he said something along the lines of, that's why we can't report in this country because they are alledged charges, based on hacked information.

Without going to far into it, I got the impression this fellow has got the gist of the whole thing typed up and he's just waiting to press the button.

I thought UEFA's investigation, could only be in relation to the circumventing of funds that they've already found us guilty and punished us of.

Infantino ran that show, so I'm presuming that UEFA wanting to re-open that case, won't bode well for him either.

Interesting to see how this investigation is played out and how it will be reported, as there are bound to be leaks.

Dangerous times ahead, Where's that bucket of sand?

I wonder if uefa think that "his highness" refers to our owner. People on here who are knowledgeable about Abu Dhabi etiquette refute that entirely.
Sayeed in the Times seems to have made that mistake. When he wrote "If City are guilty.....etc", he forgot to say guilty of what.

Spiegel is not a serious and respected paper.

Whatever the outcome of the investigation I think they will be happy to just have tarnished City’s achievements. These allegations will be enough for fans of other clubs, two in particular, to sneer and suggest that any success is down to money.
