United (H) - League Cup SF 2nd Leg Post-Match Thread

Still pissed off today,we are at wemberly which is brilliant

However, hanging on at the end to the worst rag side and manager in decades, their last freekick could have gone in

Taking both kev and sergio off when one goal and we would have gone to pens

Biazzare set up and subs

No passion,it was a derby ffs

Not putting the tie to bed in the first leg

Totally agree Karen
He takes off 2 potential penalty takers which could have been disastrous.
I'm fuming about last night

To me that game highlights exactly why we are not in the running for the league.

We dominated, but didn't win. We don't take our chances and the game slips away from us. Reminds me of three seasons ago, lucky shots, last minute goals against us, every chance seems to go in despite looking comfortable for large parts of the game.

Sterling was great defensively, but going forward he looked devoid of confidence. He was desperate to not be in a goal scoring position, it seemed. Needs to get his mojo back.

Laport back in and we don't lose that game. But Pep needs to address this, we've slipped on our standards and, potentially more worrying, we are going back to panicking and losing our discipline when chasing a game, like so many European ties.

Plus, that kind of game is why someone like Sane is a great option. Different approach, faster ball and you're in.

That said, we did enough over two legs and we're going to Wembley!

How we didn’t score last night is beyond me. So wasteful and we’ll get mugged in the champions league for sure if we don’t address it. Sterling desperately needs to find some form. The failure to score just added to the anxiety but I felt we largely controlled the game which is what Pep ultimately wanted.
Been like this all season.
Occasionally we click and score 4+ but our norm is unfortunately wasteful. We continue to generate the chances other teams strikers dream of but our culture is to miss the goal all together. How many times does Pep say the same thing about our wasteful strikers.
The reality is we have players who cannot be relied on to score when our opponents seem to need just one or two chances to score. We don't have bad players just bad finishers.

Yep, it was a lame performance one we've seen too often this season, bar the first 25 mins. We're just so slow this season, sideways passing on the halfway line, then back to the defenders, then back to the keeper. Been quite boring to watch bar a few really good performances on the whole.

Nothing to worry about then ;-)

Team selection last night can be criticised because we lost the game 1-0, but whatever it was meant to do we absolutely ripped them apart for 20 minutes, we just didn't score, so it couldn't have been that far out, our problem seems to be that too we run out of steam if we don't score early, and then start flapping if we concede, nobody would live with that first 20 minutes yesterday, but we have to score first. How many times this season have we done that, then conceded from the first goal attempt ?.

I'm unconvinced that 2 RB's and 1 CB was to clever for that game, especially with Bravo behind them (and he didn't do much wrong, in fact he didn't do much all night), even for Pep, but the rest in that first 20 minutes were outstanding, all of them, and it seems to have been forgotten by the majority.
Word for word what I thought about last night and to be honest how I saw almost all the matches where we have dropped points except for maybe 2. Look at the game again, we could have been 3/4/5/6 goals up within 25 minutes and they score with their first shot on goal. I believe Pep must be as mystified as we are and I think he has expressed that, scoring wise we are like chalk & cheese, 4/5/6 goal wins and draws and losses with very small differences in performances between the games. So spoiled are we now that people react like we are on the edge of relegation, out of all cups, manager hearing the dreaded "we fully support the manager" speech and the banks foreclosing on our massive debts. We are in a very good place, not perfect, but certainly not deserving of the irrational outrage that's swirling around.

Not as boring as watching an energy saving 70 minute kick around after scoring 3 or 4 four goals early and killing the game, which we were so close to doing but for DeGea and some poor finishing.

Excellent perceptive view of the game and season so far. Such narrow margins and it seems some days/seasons for no glaringly apparent reasons (injuries excepted) things just don't go your way.
