Such was their sustained period of success in the Ferguson years, coupled with the explosion in popularity of English football overseas and expansion of their stadium to become the largest club ground in England, Manchester United are always going to be the team to beat. It was always going to take more than one season of underwhelming performance to destabilize foundations laid over many years. Over the last 5 seasons we have taken giant steps to catch them up but these deals are proof that there's still a long long way to go.
Replying to this and above. It's a shame and Moyes failed far more spectacularly than I could ever have imagined, but you are right they have too much money not to be back at some point. At least there are teams in the Premiership that compete with them. Even in La Liga with the huge advantages Madrid and Barca have, they have both gone several years without winning a trophy. Would not mind seeing United going 5 years with no trophy, but with that money to spend on players it looks unlikely.

Agreed! Success on the pitch.. Will bring off pitch ones!!

It's a massive deal United got with both Chevrolet and Adidas. The Adidas one tripples the one Adidas have with Real or Chelsea. Don't know how Bayern fits in, but they will not come near as well. I could have understand United getting the best deal due to their fanbase in Asia, but this much bigger than the rest of the Adidas-clan? How will these clubs react?

Anyone thinking Wenger will publicly ask Platini to investigate this deal in order of FFPR? I don't think so, as it seems to fit the clubs who invented these rules in order to keep themselves up there.

For the derbygames I think it's great. We could do with a bit more resistance. I mean 4-1 and 3-0, Champions and 7th place, Champions League and no European football at all.

I can imagine that Real, Bayern Munich or Chelsea not being too thrilled with the news.

I think the real problem that this highlights, is that we cannot negotiate good deals. Not because we are incapable, but because if we do then everyone in football will claim we're cheating and UEFA will agree and "revalue" them. Meanwhile, everyone else is allowed to negotiate these ridiculous deals free of any scrutiny at all.
Absolute tosh.
Really? Despite the fact that everyone looked at our Etihad deal as dodgy and go over it with a fine tooth comb, despite being significantly less than any of our rivals deals of a similar nature? Yet United get £53m a year from Chevrolet, who don't even make cars in Europe, yet it's completely free of any investigation?
Really.

Manchester United can demand insane figures due to their current brand value, as can Bayern Munich & Real Madrid. A number of other clubs can demand such figures once it is time for them to renegotiate such deals. Our deal was looked at because at the time, as a brand, we weren't even in the top ten. In 2011 we were rated BBB (we're now AAA-).

We will always have deals with companies based in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, after all, the popularity of football is being utilised to further their national business interests. Once the stadium work is complete, the transformation of the area that the club is located & where we're positioned on the pitch, will all allow us to demand 'insane' figures. In 2011 nothing separated us as a club from others, however the plans that our club is working on will make us a very different package to everyone else in the game.

Manchester City FC will see growth on & off the pitch, Manchester as a city will see transformation, and most importantly to the Sheikh/Abu Dhabi, their economy will be a sustainable and diverse economy.

It's going to be high fives all round in a number of years. I'm not even arsed about United's deal. Why care for 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, when you're 1st? That's where we'll be, because at some point in time, we will reach the pinnacle and remain there for some time.

Why aren't the media asking is this fair value? If that deal is 75m a year and no strings attached it's quite unbelievable that Adidas has spunked that much money on a club who are not in the champs league

'Fair Value' is down to what one company is willing to pay to another company. No one is forcing Adidas to pay the money and its up to the shareholders of Adidas to raise questions if they have a problem with it. Chevrolet did have a problem with the deal and whilst they have honoured it some executives did pay the price with their jobs if I recall. Additionally this is as much about Adidas vs Nike and the chance to for Adidas to pinch a 'valued brand' (their words) from a rival. Teams like Real will be delighted as it benchmarks future kit deals and we should be delighted as it leaves us with Nike and the chance to ramp up future kit deals with them as the 'Manchester' team.

Pretty much kerching all round...

The deal starts in 2015/16 and by that time utd will have won the charity shield, the fa cup, the league, the milk cup, the rumbelows cup, the world cup, the calcutta cup, the Davis cup, the egg cup, the tea cup, the Coca Cola cup...... they got a tactical genius managing them you know!!!
The best!!
The best in Europe...
The best in England.
We might as well give the prem to the pan faced rag **** now.
