We all know that's actually true about 'narrowing the gap' don't we ? That's what is so hilarious about it.

Sky would announce it as exactly that: 'Utd narrowed the gap to 13 points'.

Rags sometimes raise their game for a one off like that, but it will also need Chelsea to lower theirs &, as you say, De Gea. Any team with any kind of attacking threat, has gone through them like shit through a goose all season & they have got away with it most times.
