VAR - 2020/21

Apart from us I don't bother watching any games now. I've no interest in watching the sport I love being reduced to the shambolic, farcical sitcom it has become because of the governing body that is in charge of it.

I am old school,I grew up watching the likes of Dave Mackay, Billy Bremner, and others of that ilk who would both give and take a bit of the rough stuff and not go whining off to the ref, or throwing themselves onto the ground with an almost pantomime theatricality to it.
I watched Salah a little while back and the OTT dramatics from him just made me want to kick my tv in. You'd have thought someone had hacked away at his shins with a machete, like a 'Nam vet chopping his way through the swathes of reeds in the jungles and forests outside of war-torn Ho Chi Minh.
Replays showed there was no physical contact to make him go down like he did, so he was obviously cheating, hoping to get a penalty. But the ref (can't remember who it was) gives nothing and Salah springs to his feet and continues playing.

This is not the game I've loved all my life. This is not what we used to do in the playgrounds and play fields of my youth, cheat to gain an advantage.
The sport is barely recognisable now from the 60's and 70's game that I knew and played, and I truthfully do lay the blame at the door of Pigmol and the way VAR is implemented.
I thought it was bad when Klinsmann first came over,
But he's a amateur compared to this lot
Its fking ludicrous now,

Anyone else find themselves watching games until VAR or the interpretation of VAR completely ruins the enjoyment? NU v Fulham last night was a good example. Foul outside the box not enough to take Wilson down. He takes another couple of paces then dramatically throws himself down. Correct decision is a foul given outside the box and Yellows to both players. Red for Anderson at a pinch (2nd yellow after very harsh first when Richie dived)

Clear as day. VAR says to Graham Scott "Not sure that's a pen, go and check the monitor". He looks then gives the pen and sends Anderson off.!

TV off for me and blood pressure returns to normal.

I was okay with the card, it's a judgement call and if it stops him getting away then red is fine.

However, as you say, it was clear as day that there was at most the merest touch on Wilson's foot.

Pretty much every game. I leave the tv on but go and make a brew or tea

great post.

straight red for diving in the box.

every fan feels victimised by the officials way before VAR, that will never change.
Liverpool have had the most VAR decisions go against them this season yet it’s constantly pushed that VAR is in place to help them. It just doesn’t add up.

If officials want to decide the game - the last thing they need is VAR - instead of just pointing to the spot at every dive or any tussle in the area - they have to have justification as they get a even better view of the incident, in slow mo, with the rest of the world also seeing what’s happened.

Again, I’m no VAR lover and I do understand so much of the criticism it gets - I’m just stuck in a mindset that if we scraped VAR it would be even more anarchy now, as we would have goals given miles offside, blatant dives given as penalty’s etc

simply, we have to keep improving VAR.
However good they make VAR, it will always be reviewed by a mixture of incompetent, corrupt & idiotic fools ... It’s ruining the game and it’s getting worse not better, regardless of which team is on the end of its increasingly ridiculous decisions ...! The only way it will be accepted is if they put mic’s on all the officials so we can hear what they are saying, the fact that they will never allow this tells me everything I need to know about it...

VAR decisions for penalties are comedy.
Kane,Grealish, Salah etc etc are all masters of conning the officials. It’s a contact sport for fucks sake.

Serious question.....

How many times has Raheem got booked for simulation / diving ?

I am sure its 3-5 times. in all comp`s.

Compare that to:

Kane
Sane
Salah
Grealish
Martial

I m sure Sterling has more bookings than those 5 players listed - combined !

What do people think of our VAR in the Carabao cup.
There were some decisions that could have had different outcomes if VAR was available.
I'm thinking of the
Foden goal
Fernandinho slapping incident
United player grabbing Everton player by throat.

To be honest I'd have been happy with no VAR and let the officials make the decision.
VAR was brought in to decide if Foden was offside and proof of this is that they all missed it in real time.

I enjoyed being able to celebrate our goals on Tuesday without worrying if they'd be ruled out. It served as a timely reminder how much enjoyment VAR has taken out of the game.
