VAR - 2020/21

But the penalty call as well in the first half. I know it deflects up off his thigh, but his arms should not be in that position in his own box. They're well away from his body.
if I compare it to the penalty awarded against Micah when we were playing Liverpool in the league cup (I know, I've got a long, merciless, vindictive memory, especially where the dippers are concerned — for my mental health, I should let it go…) the ball, blasted at him from a shorter distance by the way, also deflects up off his thigh, but onto his hand which is right in front of his face. As you would expect it to be.

You’re not alone - that one still riles; I still rant about the injustice of that decision.

IIRC Micah was falling (slipped) at the time so instinctively put his hands out when the ball rebounded onto it. Think the ref was Phil Dowd - when he was still a fat twat who couldn’t keep up with play!

Yes, it was Dowd. This from David Mooney's report, 26 January, 2012:

“But the lead didn’t last long. Micah Richards was adjudged to have handled a fierce drive inside the penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot. It was a very harsh decision – Richards blocked with his foot before the ball ricocheted up onto his arm and the ball was struck from three yards in front of him – but the referee waved away the protests and Gerrard slotted the spot kick home.”
We would have gone through on the away goals rule.

VAR should work perfectly well if games were viewed neutrally and impartially but this is the English Premier League so this will never happen.
Too many "hidden agendas" going on behind the scenes is the reason there is no consistency.
I firmly believe that last nights decisions were took by Mike Dean with Premier League/FA approval to favour Villa after our legal goal went against them.
Was going to mention Pogba's dive too but Villa wouldn't get any payback from the FA for that because uShited are stalwarts of the "hidden agendas"

*bump*
Needs a serious rethink, and as for “monitors not working”.......

I hope it works at Anfield this weekend....unlike the previous time we were there

Where are the VAR apologists today?
First Luiz, disgraceful that the ref and the Var man allowed that decision.
Second if VAR can rule on the tightest of offsides against Southampton, why can they not do so regarding a blatant dive.
It is pointless having it when decisions like the 2 red cards are allowed.

big difference between a apologist and someone that wants it to work to better the game

I've not seen the Luiz incident, but i've just seen the clip of the Martial dive.

now in normal circumstance without VAR i would say it's not the refs fault for giving it , as from his angle and speed it looks like Martial was taken out... however, thanks to VAR he is able to have a clearer look and still gives a pen! that is beyond farcical to me. but it's nice we know the ref has no excuse. he is able to view it again in clear slow mo and still gets the wrong decision! so he deserves all the stick he gets for this awful decision.

unless i've got this wrong, as iv'e only seen one reply from one angle, but it looked a clear dive.

so frustrating as I stick up for refs and how tough they have it, but when they get calls like this wrong, there is simply no defence.

So VAR is a waste of time. Glad we agree.

Nope, it's not, as has been proven many times with so many correct calls.

but when a ref can't get a decision right even with the benefit of replays - it's not the VAR that's the problem
I'd be all for it if it were totally transparent like in cricket and rugby where everyone can hear the discussion.

I suspect there is a reason why football doesn't want to go down that route

Dean just wanted to be the focus of attention, and he's got that. He probably wanted to be the answer to the quiz question, who was the referee when United scored ten?

In what world would you look at that penalty decision and think, yes, there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that that is a foul, and he deserves a red card, when the team conceding the penalty is already a man down, and losing by seven goals.

Dean should be stuck off the list. Game management? More like result manipulation.

Luiz little clip a penalty and red card, yet Torres pushed and no penalty or card ?

VAR last night at Old Toilet was a joke.....every man and his dog thought Dean was asked to go to the monitor to see if Martial had dived (which he did). The picture was frozen and stayed frozen whilst Dean was getting instructions in his ear...it turns out he was being told that the penalty was to stand but the card should be upgraded to a red.....Rag corruption in full view! Is anyone on Sly saying this is unpalatable?

yep i'd be happy with that aswell, anything to cut down the ridiculous decisions.

what we can't do is give up and go back to 'how it was' .. as there would be loads more incidences of Martial dive and the refs can get away with it by having the excuse of his angle and speed. Dean has no excuse for that decision last night and he is quite rightly getting pelters from everyone.

At the moment, VAR has no credibility imo as, as you say, very obvious mistakes are slipping through.

As a concept, it is a great idea, but it needs competence for it to work effectively, and that is in very short supply in the Pigmol sector.

Maybe, those reviewing VAR monitors should be from a different league either in UK, or Europe.

Maybe better still have refs from different sports as the rules are not that difficult to grasp.

shocking and so clear what they was up to ? never a pen and never a red card but they got the result they wanted
(operation keep united in the title race at all cost) am fearing tonight game at burnley now

I fell in love with City at a very young age, I am now 62. I have loved them longer than my children and more than I have loved my wife :-)
When we were shit I retreated from football and just followed City home and away, I also did the reserves and youth team. This was mainly due to the rag love in and the corruption surrounding it, Whilst I could ignore football I couldnt ignore City.
Now, I have the best team I have seen in my life playing in sky blue, I didnt think it could get better than Lee Bell and the rest but it has so why am I again retreating from football ?
Answer because the same corruption I saw in the 90's is all around and in every game VAR is being manipulated by unseen wankers and even when it is used correctly, like last night where they are basically telling a ref he is wrong and his get out is to review the incident, the whistling wanker ignores them.
I will not stop watching City, it is a love that endures, your first love is always the strongest but football is dead to me. It is corrupt shit fed to the gullible.
I accept VAR the machine is not the problem, it is the wankers using it.
