Var debate 2019/20

Absolute bollocks, the sheer amount of offside goals allowed to stand for Liverpool and United last season is proof that option is fucking shite and open to questioning of officials integrity.
so it works for all the other 17 clubs but United and Livepool's goals get through the net, 'pardon the pun' i'd say they the FA need investigating rather than introducing VAR

Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but does anyone understand why the goal was given offside yesterday in the Burnley game when it was still scoreless?
Because the Burnley forward was in an off side position earlier in the move when the ball was played forward. He became offside when he touched the ball after the defender slipped and the lineman immediately flagged. Correct decision and correct timing in pre VAR days. But I don't understand why the lineman flagged immediately. I thought they were now supposed to delay flagging so play could develop and then VAR would correct an error if a goal was scored.

The lineman flagging immediately happened several times against City yesterday. I don't know why?

I think we will get a lot more penalties now that VARS in place. Countless times in years gone by we've had blatant penalties turned down.

agree but like someone mentioned earlier we play the finest of margins in the penalty area and now that we know the width of the shirt is offside, we'll be punished more than others that play hoof ball style like Burnley and the Rags.

Unlike in Europe they will still flag immediately in the PL. The ref will then decide to play on if he thinks it's a goal scoring chance

Thanks. It adds to the confusion that the procedure or interpretation of the rules are different in the champs league. I think the handball penalty decisions are much more severe in the champs league than in the prem. I'm unclear about attackers scoring with the use of a hand now. In the prem a goal was ruled out today because a hand was used. In the champs league last season vertongen scored for spurs with his hand..

I was of the understanding that VAR was for clear and obvious mistakes and for me the offside decision for Sterling was ridiculous. The way this is going ruins the spontaneity of the game.

Also, they measured from Sterling’s shoulder yesterday but the Liverpool one from last season was measured from the players feet. It doesn’t seem to be a very consistent approach.

You can only be off side if a part of your body is off side that you can score a goal with. So the PL have said that Raheems shoulder was off side. I suggest the PL read the hand ball law in that case as this states hand ball is the whole of the arm including the shoulder. Thus you cannot score with your shoulder.
Wrong according to below... above arm pit is not hand ball. See balo v Norwich for shoulder goal.

Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham
The 'hand' includes fingertips, upper arm, and the outer part of the shoulder. It does not include the top of the shoulder.
