Would you want VAR scrapped?

It's not a stubborn defence, i fully accept the downsides and agree with many how infuriating VAR is.

My only main defence is not to scrap it completely, that doesn't make me a VAR 'lover' , i also do think many ignore the positives it brings when there is a major decision a ref would have got completely wrong had it not been for VAR.
VAR is SPECTACULARLY fucking up the game. They have every tool available to enable them to make the correct call but they still fail miserably, whether on purpose or just being shit.

We moaned about Mason,Mariner,Moss, Clattenburg to name a few but I have yet to see a worst one than Alty Taylor. They have the most up to date technology available to them but either don't or are instructed not to use it by ex Robocop Howard.

They've been using TV images to make decisions ever since referee's have been mic'd up.

The biggest travesty pre VAR was when Taylor didn't send Sideshow Bob off at the Etihad. I'm convinced he was going to until someone whispered in his ear.

Given the 3 not overturned at the weekend, I’m not sure having VAR would have changed the call anyway.

The 4 calls are consistent. Wrong, but consistent.

Just hate the fact the officials can get away with giving completely wrong decisions on the basis of ‘that’s just what they saw’ with no VAR to help them out.

The issue, as always, is how much contact is enough to be a foul. Each referee will see it differently in each game they referee.

When VAR actively looks to verify the on field call more than make their own unbiased view, it means there will always be decisions like this, with or without VAR.

With VAR at least gives us the chance of getting the correct decision

Without, a ref just points to the spot and that’s final. No questions asked. Ok, there was the slightest of fraction touch on Bruno so VAR may not have overturned refs decision. But had there been zero contact the ref would still have likely pointed to the spot. That’s the big difference.

You know my views on VAR. I don’t disagree with you, it’s just that we’ve had 4 of these penalties in the last week or so and they’ve all ended up the same, with or without VAR.

If it disappeared tomorrow, I wouldn’t mourn its loss.

However, it isn’t going away, so it needs a total rethink/recalibration.

It doesn’t need to be over fussy, but it does need to tell refs to look at these feather touch penalties.
They could send them to the screen and ask one question. “Anywhere else on the pitch do you give that as a foul”?

It’s not even that. It’s “Are you sure there was enough contact for him to go down, given he’s run two further steps whilst his foot told his brain he’d been touched?”

Obviously no VAR tonight but that incident is a great example of how a ref led system could work. ref sees incident. Maybe not 100% sure so makes a TV signal indicating to VAR room that in next break of play I’m going to the screen to take a look so have the footage ready. When decision made ref says it was/was not a penalty making ref to the LOTG. It’s not hard
