Well the vast majority of people seem to be calling for less involvement from VAR.

But then you get a minor indiscretion like this, outside of their jurisdiction and a lot of the same people seem to be saying they should get involved.

Can’t have it both ways.
Minor ! Have you seen what he's done? It's blatant cheating. He even moved the foam to make it look legitimate.

He cheated stop being so argumentative. For years refs have put foam down to indicate where to take the kick from, Toney moved the foam.
Ok, I’ve outlined my reasoning before, so it’s probably not worth repeating.

Lots of things are “cheating”, but are accepted in the game. The “dark arts”.

Beyond ridiculous when this isn't called a foul. Anywhere else on the pitch it's a free-kick and yellow card.

I can see why they didn't give it.

In the long shots, Bowen also has his hands up high around the defender. He let's go first, and then falls backwards.

I doubt it would have been overturned if given, as the defender continued to hold longer, but you see it all the time at corners, where two players grapple, but one then let's go and allows themselves to fall.

@halfcenturyup Var could and should have intervened. Stephen230 is wrong. It is classed as a serious missed incident, basically he cheated. He not only moved the ball, he moved the refs foam and then moved the ball again.

You can’t just decide what you think VAR’s job should involve and then call them out for missing something. When it quite clearly isn’t within their jurisdiction.

Thanks for clearing that up, Dermot.

100% Penalty the defender is not looking at the ball all he’s bothered about is stopping Bowen jumping Madley gave handball against Bowen

How was that penalty for Sheff United any different to Onana completely clattering the Wolves player early in the season?

It's virtually a carbon copy!

Nice to see he has moved on from betting cheating, to basic football cheating!!! From what I can see most of the press think he is being clever!!! Just imagine if one of our players did this ???

Is he not? This is while the ball is coming towards them - Bowen has both arms around the defenders shoulders. You can clearly see one is high and wrapped around, and the if you watch the video, you can he has the other arm up high too.

He lets go just before the ball arrives, and it's only when he starts falling to the ground that the defender turns to look at him.

As I say, I can see why it's given - Bowen was clever, and the defender wasn't - but if the ref thinks they're wrestling and that Bowen has then gone down easily, then he's got a case not to give it.

I haven't decided what is and what isn't within Vars jurisdiction. I read the reports from the people with expert knowledge of Vars role. It is there to clearly read on the Internet.

I’m genuinely interested in which people with expert knowledge of VAR protocols have suggested they have authority over restarts.
