Would you want VAR scrapped?

They never had it. But interesting development- I’ll always back tech help for refs but would happily sacrifice that if everyone accepted awful officiating- which we had previously.
Before there was one awful official now we have 3 or 4 some of them have toys to play with

Found this an interesting watch -

It’s an old one but it’s a good example of a multi incident review that shows why the suggestion I’ve heard numerous times that reviews should have a strict time limit on them is not a good idea.

It’s also a good example of what we were discussing the other day when someone asked how do the TV pundits know about decisions before the referee?

You can hear the VAR in this clip as soon as Jackson is confirmed as offside saying…” Ok send that to TV” They then have a lengthy look at two possible penalty shouts and send the referee to the monitor before the final decision is reached.

Why? That’s a really unusual combination of incidents. But even then, you could have the time limit per incident that you’re reviewing. So in that case you have 30 seconds for the offside, 30 for the first penalty check, and 30 for the second penalty check. It’s really not that hard.

Putting people already under pressure under strict time restraints isn’t a way to improvement. It’s a way to complete chaos.
