Nothing would come tumbling down on the back of what Halsey said.
He claimed that he was asked to change a match report because the FA thought an incident warranted retrospective action and under the rules at the time, they couldn’t proceed with that if the referee had claimed in his report that he’d clearly seen it at the time. They didn’t think he could have seen it properly if he didn’t deem it a red card, so asked him to consider re-wording it.
Now, that clearly isn’t right. If he’s said he’s seen it, they should accept his word and not put pressure on him. It’s impossible to have an opinion on the incident itself because he didn’t specify which one it was.
But while it certainly doesn’t reflect well on the FA, assuming it’s true, it’s a world away from brown envelopes, cheating and manipulating results, as being discussed.
