VAR Discussion Thread - 2023/24 | PL clubs to vote on whether to scrap VAR (pg413)

Would you want VAR scrapped?

Yes they should, but Webb has proved this week he doesnt. And he’s the head of it.

Just seen the VAR process in the rugby. Transparent clear and they know the laws and make the decision accordingly within seconds. . Football is an embarrassment by comparison. Deliberately so??
Transparent and Fair?
It was, but not any more with the advent of the TMO bunker. Suddenly decisions are just handed down from on high and the decisions are, well let's say variable and no longer transparent.

either way, those that think everything will be hunky dory just by scrapping VAR don't seem to realise how much uproar there would be without it.

England boss Sarina Wiegman, returning to her home country, said it was "frustrating" to see an "obvious" offside goal given in Tuesday's defeat.

"I think the whole stadium thought it was offside," she added.

"When you talk about VAR, of course it would have taken away that goal.
It's here. I hope over time it gets better.

I know it's TMM™, therefore any sympathy will be in very short supply for them. We all remember the CL game against them a few years ago. But the more you see it, the worse that Dias offside call looks. For me, going on the angles available to us plebs he looks comfortably onside. I can’t understand how VAR didn’t overrule the on field decision.

Absolute embarrassment that today. Its corruption at its very finest. Have the refs got a bet on this game today?

The problem, that has always existed, is that someone or more than one official ought to be sacked but they won't be.

Accountability and transparency.

VAR is not the answer nor is it the problem.

And then just like the police investigating themselves……..
‘we will learn from our mistakes and ensure nothing like this happens again’.
And then it does.

I stopped off at the pub for a pint with the dog and saw the Dias incident. Even the dog said it was onside.
The whole VAR system is a shambles. It’s hopelessness is compounded by the worst cadre of top line refs in my lifetime. I can’t think of one I ever want to ref one of our games.

A “significant error”

Whoever was on VAR (think it was Atwell) should be sacked immediately

I would be fuuuuuuuuming.

Mason was sacked for less last season. And in the context of that game today, I’d be surprised if whoever was on VAR isn’t gone by next weekend.

When you watch it and see with your own eyes he was onside all you can think of it's cheating bias brown envelope because no one by now should be getting that wrong even if it was his first day on the var job!
