I had the footage of my phone in the ground as did some of the lads sat in front of me and they were adamant it was never a foul. I didn't disagree but pointed out why he'd given it.

Looking back at it now in no way is that enough contact on Alison to blow for a foul and excuse his flapping. You can see he managed to fully extend both of his arms and reach. Akanji doesn't get any leverage from it or effect Alison's jump or reaching to catch the ball nor does he jump into him. He goes down, grabs his foot, all their hands go up and the ref is straight in.

The contact is akin to tapping someone on the shoulder, for a foul you'd need to put your hand on their shoulder and turn them.

One said "its one that can go either way". Yeah, if that it was on Ederson he doesn't blow and leaves it to VAR to 'overrule' him.

Less contact than than the Newcastle Arsenal goal, Allison flapped and missed the cross completely, I bet they don’t even discuss it on Sly review today.

Remember I don’t watch every single match and know every single incident so can’t always give a view.

Anyhow, You don’t mention the word ‘ref’ who deemed it a foul and awarded the free kick- VAR was never going to overturn the refs decision for that one.
It is frustrating, Keepers get way to much protection from officials and always have done, pointless players even going near a challenge with them for a ball. Would like a change in philosophy on them ones for sure. Too many keepers get let out of jail on a regular basis.

The ref blowing is a good point. He took a while to blow so obviously wasn’t quite sure, so why did he blow? If he didn’t blow, VAR would most likely leave it with the on-field decision, which I find completely against what it should be there for.

Ever since i've watched football the refs blow up every time a player challenges a keeper, its infuriating. Would hoped VAR could overturn this going forward but the whole mentality needs changing. Keepers are way to protected.

After yesterdays rag game it's obvious that the refs are being told what to do.

Looking at the rag's penalty yesterday :
Martial ( who has "won" at least 2 penalties against City in recent years for obvious dives - the 6-3 springs to mind ) "wins" one against Everton just at a time when Everton are well on top.
Martial ( outside the area ) receives a pass and kicks the ball into the area and has no chance of staying with the ball
He takes three steps forward into the area, wraps his left foot around a static Everton defenders ankle and theatrically dives.
The referee books him for diving.
I believe that the ever impartial Neville commentating, when VAR amazingly chose to intervene - said " that's never a penalty ! "
but the clown(s) on VAR award the rag's yet another joke penalty ( just when they need it )
So the concept of a "clear and obvious error" clearly does not apply to any situation which may favour the rags.

Yep.
The ref was perfectly placed to see Martial move towards the defender and catch his leg. He's not 'missed' anything

I actually believe it was a goal but what made life a lot easier for the ref was the acceptance by the City players as soon as the foul was given.
We all know that certain teams would have hounded the ref but City simply didnt which probably played against you.

The VAR probably looked at it looked at the non reaction of the City players and made the VAR teams a lot easier
