VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

I don't understand the appeal. How many time does an incident need looking at ?

1st Ref said red card
2nd VAR said red card
3rd AP no red card.

How can both the on field ref and VAR get it wrong ?

Surly this outcome would mean severe action against the on field ref and VAR. They both have fucked up and could of effected the outcome of the game.

Obviously I'm being sarcastic ! We know why it was over turned.

How much longer can football carry on with this clear cheating in favour of rags ?

Two football lunge/stamp should have been a red card, above the ball tackle red card than AP reduce it to yellow. 75million quid deal to avoid ffp, it stinks
The whole shit tip needs cleaning up

Drain the swamp.

Oh shit, I think that's Trumps rallying cry, ergh kill the cheats.

Forest have received a huge fine for criticising crap VAR decisions and implying Atwell showed bias as a Luton fan.

Watch the VAR protocols in the RL Final.

All crystal clear, quick and open. No dispute.

As per cricket & tennis.

What have PIGMOL/FA/PL/Sky got to hide ??

Corruption in plain sight !!

Calls in tennis tend not to be subjective so VAR is easy. Cricket less so but there are still a lot of straightforward decisions. Football is a lot trickier particularly relating to handball where the interpretation seems to change week by week.
As for fouls, we still have too many instances of fouls in the box not being awarded with commentators and pundits saying "that would be a foul anywhere else on the pitch", a distinction not made anywhere in the laws of the game.
I accept these microphone jockeys are rarely qualified refs, but I think we've all seen and thought the same thing when watching games.

The decision process should be live in stadium and on TV.

For as long as they're not suspicion will rightly continue.

Complete transparency !!

I agree with complete transparency but I believe the bigger problem is consistency. Offside in one game is onside in another. That could be reduced with semi-automatic offsides but would still leave the "interfering with an opponent" aspect open to interpretation.
Handball decisions must be judged more systematically and there should now be sufficient examples from every angle for greater consistency to be achieved. Every time you see a defender running with his hands behind his back to avoid a potential handball call is an indication that those who apply the laws don't have a clue about human movement. As for defenders trying to jump with their hands by their sides......

If they had said Atwell is a fucking shitface cheat, would that have been more acceptable?

He's just incompetent. A great referee, but nobody knows in which sport.
They could probably have questioned his interpretation of the laws, but to suggest cheating is to cross a line. However if he really supports Luton then you have to question why he was on VAR if Luton could benefit from an Everton victory.
