VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

Human error , which will always happen with or without VAR - far less with VAR.

What is wrong with checking if a player is offside or not ? Surely when the stakes in the PL are so high then they need to check this. 99% of the time with the help of VAR they are able to determine the outcome and season by season its adapted and improved - I just prefer a offside to be checked briefly rather than a lino not having a clue and taking a guess.

As for your last point, so anything against Liverpool is keeping the title challenges alive anything for Liverpool is ‘corruption’ - do admire the mental gymnastics at times.

It's not human error if you can replay something over and over again and the rest of the country can see it, it's something else entirely.

WTF are you harping on about the vermin for? I used a video as an example. You can tell you're not a blue with some of the shit you post.

They released the audio, they clearly miscommunicated on a very close offside decision and disallowed the goal - you can clearly hear from the audio when they realised they f*cked up but was past the point of no return - shit happens and as it was against Liverpool then so be it.

Not everything is corrupt you know, sometimes even with replay and audio things can go wrong.

I think if we are fully aware and cognizant of the fact that these guys are not dropping a lot of points and our fixtures against then are going to be critical.

We should Pip them,

They are our competition, don't want to admit it but that is a well drilled squad.
That defense is 5 star.

They have everything except a 30 goal season and a personality.

Arteta is has much charisma as a card board cut our of Pep, and that is worth precisely 1,3 points a season, according to my calculations.

Referees to announce VAR decisions in cup semi-finals

Referees will announce any video assistant referee decisions to football supporters inside stadiums in England for the first time during the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

As part of a trial, referees will announce final decisions following a visit to the VAR pitchside monitor or when rulings are made on factual matters such as accidental handball by a goalscorer or offside offences where the attacker touches the balL

Look forward to the 1st one “ non red card because it’s Liverpool”

More transparency that everyone demands = more moaning and outrage whatever they say.

"Hold on Brooksy...I think he's offside mate."

"Ok Cavo...Can you disallow it quickly as Virgil is in my ear?"

"Doing my best...YNWA"

"YNWA"

"Found it! His shoelace was a millimetre over the halfway line. Son is offside."

"Thank fuck for that. Looking forward to you reffing the final with the mighty reds mate."

"Cheers pal."

"Lads, it Howard here...You do realise the whole country just heard that?"

"Fuck off Webby! Is this another of your pranks mate?"

"I suggest you look back up at the sky sports pics..."

"FUCK!"

"FUCK!'

"Don't worry Cavo, you've still got the final. I'll get Atters to drop a bigger bollock in the other semi"

Glad you are amused

You idea is “solid”
No, it’s dumb and you still haven’t suggested how it will work Maybe because it won’t

I’ve told you already that the games you have suggested don’t correlate with football
Hockey is an example for ideas as it more comparable

Details of judges it’s an idea not a developed process

Time to decide As already explained I don’t want delays if it can’t be determined in one minute then it not a clear and obvious error that’s why it won’t be allowed to take longer

The 30 mins of ball in play is based on thousands of games where this is the average So smart pants it’s what fans pay for now

Finishing the game when the ball next goes out of play is to eliminate any perceived bias of officials like in the Newcastle v LFC game a few weeks ago If that’s what rugby do the fine I don’t watch it

Fly subs could use vibrations in boots If the player doesn’t come off then that’s up to his manager to deal with If the vibrations down work tough shit I’m looking to cut delays and stop subs being used nefariously Have you got any ideas apart form the dumb idea of captains challenge and once again you still haven’t explained how this would work in practice. Because the idea is nuts already I’ve explained to you why

Say “no offence” then calling an idea “nuts” is a offensive

So why is DoGSO a non starter? I doubt you could pull it to bits as you haven’t even though about it so please try I’ll be amused
Do you thinks the current one is ok and fair and equitable? I’ve already explained why it isn’t
My idea is designed to stop players committing the offence as it wouldn’t make sense for them to do so

It sounds like a yank leading the game that’s both offensive to yanks and me

When did I say I want the game to go back to normal, what is normal? I don’t want VAR and I definitely don’t want the dumbest nuttiest idea of challenges just because other sports have it, yes it makes sense in tennis it doesn’t have one iota of sense in football

Last reply as you can’t offer any sensible explanation of you idea which isn’t really yours in any case
Never get sucked into a convo with him on any thread, he talks complete bollocks

Where is the Semi-automated VAR we were told is coming in this season

Tony Scholes, the Premier League’s Chief Football Officer, gave club officials an update during the meeting; indicating that the technology may not be in place by mid-November either. As such, a winter or early 2025 launch appears more likely.

Howard Webb, the chief refereeing officer of Professional Game Match Officials (PGMOL), had hoped for the technology to be introduced this year, especially after it had been successfully tested in other competitions. “It is crucial to manage expectations on the launch date,” said a Premier League official. The ongoing trials are necessary to ensure the system’s smooth operation. But they mean that fans and players alike will need to wait longer for the improved efficiency it promises.

The ESPN guy said a while ago, it’s almost certainly going to be next season now.

They refused to utilise the existing solution that is working very well all over the world and is approved by Fifa. As they wanted to develop their own bespoke solution. So they have purposely delayed it. Has anyone got any faith it will work properly if they have had anything to do with its development, answers on the back of a Postcard please?

I don't think they'll be playing the live conversations between VARs as they are making the decisions. Rather they'll have the referee (or one of the VARs over the loudspeaker?) announce the final decision and any important details about what led to the decision similar to how the American NFL referees announce penalty decisions.

Which is undesirable for the British public and frankly even the wider European or World Football fan, not only will this sort of thing come across as an attempt to "Americanize" football, but it sends us further down the VAR rabbit hole with more "additions" (rather than "subtractions") to try and painfully and foolishly make VAR "better" or "broader". This is going in the wrong direction, Football is not like American NFL in that sport the referees talk to the crowd and stuff when giving penalties. That's not supposed to happen in Football!! Football is supposed to be a free flowing sport!!

The match should not be subject to referees (or VARs) explanations of decisions over the loud speaker that shouldn't be over analyzed in the first place. This is a violation of football's nature which is a sport that is to be played with a steady and a natural flow. This will only add on the interrupting time of a VAR review to now include one more minute of the referee (or VAR?) preparing a speech to explain what happened. If only they could detach from this VAR-induced way of thinking and start going in a better direction rather than digging a deeper hole for the sport to have to get out of. More VAR gimmicks are not helpful at this point. We need to escape from this rabbit hole not go down it further!

The only announcements will be either for ‘factual’ VAR overturns, offside and handball by the goal scorer. Or subjective overturns by the referee after viewing the monitor.

It’s perfectly clear now that as soon as they start making the TV sign, that they’re about to overturn the on-field decision. From what I’ve seen the explanation is usually drowned out by cheering/ booing anyway, as everyone knows what’s coming from the air TV sign.

The first question to ask will be how accurate it is? I couldn’t find an answer about the FIFA system

Well it was used at the last world cup 2 years ago and in the Champions League since and don't remember any controversy. Why the PL decided to ignore this system completely is frankly bizarre!!

I'm pretty much convinced it will work properly. What I am more concerned about is whether it will be applied properly.

If the league wasn't so obviously bent I'd have ore faith it could work properly.

"After consulting J.Carragher. Salah wasn't offside. Goal to Liverpool!"
