VAR (PL introduction 2019)

Is VAR used when a goalkeeper saves a penalty to check if goalkeeper has infringed rules?

Is VAR not used in this instance because a goal has not been scored and doesnt fall within

any other VAR criteria? eg penalty has not been awarded as it had already been awarded?

Is VAR used if referee awards a goal after penalty taken, eg double hit by penalty taker or

penalty taker stops their forward movement etc. Eg as goal has been scored it falls within

one of VAR criteria?

Depends.

Just been listening to a section of Talk Sport where they have been discussing the use of VAR in the Premier League next season, apparently there has been a big meeting today to clarify some of the issues. They had this "expert" on to explain it all and there were a couple of interesting points.
1. Through the trials of VAR the linesmen have been encourged to keep their flag down and allow VAR to review the decision if it led to a goal, this will no longer be the case next year. Why?
2. This is where it gets interesting, the guy claimed that when a decision goes to VAR it will be displayed on the big screen that an incident is under review, once reviewed the decision will then be put up again on the screens. ( all good to this point) The big news is that the incident will then be shown on the screen for all the fans to see, very similar to what you would see on Sky or BT.

All sounds very promising doesn't it.
Unfortuantly there are only 18 of the 20 clubs in the Premier league that have screens suitable to show these replays, and two clubs that won't be able to offer this video proof to the fans.

Anyone fancy guessing which 2 clubs can't accomodate the large screens?

Yep, you guessed it the Rags and the Red Dippers.
They can find room for a extra 10,000 seats though!
Fucking state of it!

Just had a chat with my brother who lives in Germany
German football has been using VAR this season and in the last week there's been two scandalous decisions
German cup semi, Bayern vs Bremen. The ref awarded a pen for Bayern that definitely wasn't a pen and VAR didn't intervene.
After the game, even the Bayern players said it wasn't a penalty and the Bremen Head coach saying he could have lived with the decision if there was no VAR

Yesterday, penalty for handball awarded to Leipzig, when the ball clearly hits a Freiburg player on the chest. Again no VAR intervention

So basically what we have now without VAR except on a much larger scale.

Thanks to VAR we will never experience an Aguero moment again. Just imagine something similar happens next season. I guarantee that no one will be getting excited (including the players) as we all wait to see what VAR has to say. And you can guarantee that it'll be used automatically in that situation. In fact, I can see it draining all of the emotion out of the game in the end as live football slowly morphs into TV entertainment, with TV companies running adds whilst VAR is sorting out a decision. Perhaps the adds will be bookies saying get 2-1 that the decision will be reversed.

This was said before the World Cup, instead it was one of the most exciting tournaments in recent history, VAR added to that.

There is no reason i can find for them not installing big screens at the swamp and dippers, they can manipulate VAR as much as they like if no-one can see it

I think VAR is good for offsides and things like the Son end line decision. Where it appears to be poor is the handball decisions. Nearly every handball seems to be contentious with no one sure what the right decision should be.

That’s the same without VAR.
At least if it’s a clear handball and the ref has missed it we get a correct outcome, not a ref waving it away because he didn’t see it.
