We still haven't got to the bottom of the VAR 'Match commander' question. The PL say there isn't one, but SOMEONE decides who sees what.
There definitely is a match commander and this was stated at the outset of VAR. I think the original one was Neil Swarbrick who was peddled out to great fanfare from PGMOL.

This has obviously been bedunked as the PL have said so.

When Swarbrick retired as a ref, he was taken on as the VAR Implementation Officer and during an interview I remember him saying that he, or another, would be in Shockley Park to oversee the VAR.

Debunked because the PL 'said so'...

Halsey has also made accusations that he'd been asked to alter his match report to say he hadn't seen an incident so that a retrospective Red card could be issued.

Somebody is lying.

I’d trust what Halsey has said, especially as the accusations he came out with were never put to the lawyers by PGMOL/PL.

They may not directly refer to the likes of Swarbrick as the match commander, but there’s definitely somebody there pulling the strings

If I had the time I'd put in a FOI request for the answers to those questions. I would also ask to see calibration certificates and fault logs, especially relating to the Dipper's game where VAR didn't seem to be working when they appeared to guess on the TAA handball and Salah offside decision.
And as long as there is no transparency there will be no trust.

Because you haven’t bothered trying to find out the answers?

The answer to everything you ask is freely available and easily found.
I beg to differ, one site, PremierLeague.com is so confusing I gave up. It seems to suggest 5 cameras 2 of which are on the 18 yard lines are used for offsides.
Another site said there were 33! These include slow motion and super slow motion cameras.
Espn state that var can only use the cameras supplied by the broadcaster.
So thank you for your rather smug, condescending answer but it didn't help.

So, offside is still subjective?

Got it.
Seems so, there have been goals ruled offside for the tiniest margins inc Toneys goal for Brentford at Fulham last weekend so no surprise this new rule went in the Rags favour where it’s been ignored in other games. Only surprise is how quiet the Dippers and Media have been over it. If we scored that it would still be headline news

When has the benefit of the doubt been applied to us? Or even elsewhere, is it just coincidence that they were the first to profit from the new rule after a full season.

United have conceded two goals recently, one in April and one already this season that would have been ruled out for off side before they changed it.

This. Any attempt at a challenge at knee height when the opponent is running at full speed is endangering the opponent's safety, imo. It's a horrible precedent to set, and the next guy who gets fucked over may not be so lucky. De Bruyne certainly wasn't impressed. He knows.

Not setting out to "do him" isn't much of a defence either.
There was a similar incident on 12 November 1975 and the player committing the "foul" wasn't even booked.
The tackle effectively ended the career of the player fouled.
I remember it to this day and am still seething.

I apologise for coming across as condescending. It wasn’t my intention but appreciate it does across that way. I didn’t join this forum to cause arguments or antagonise people for the sake of it.

If you're off the ground, you're out of control. That's it.
As soon as you leave the ground, your body is bound by the Laws of Motion, and ,if you'r jumping, by the laws of ballistics. Unless you are able to counteract the inertia of your movement, or collide with another body, your own body will continue in the same trajectory you started with. You cannot control that.
You cannae change the laws of physics, Captain.

Every time you run at some point your feet are off the ground. Every time you jump your feet are off the ground. It is a fallacy to say that you are out of control. Obviously you are constrained by physics but I can certainly jump fairly accurately from one point to another so I imagine top level athletes can also.

That does not preclude the reckless sort of lunges that should, and often do end up in red cards but just having both feet off the ground isn't reckless in and as of itself.

Unless it's walking football of course.

What is the defined tolerance for offside now and how is it measured.
I am an engineer and on a drawing I would add a tolerance say for a linear dimension. So 300cm +\0-.5cm means that when the inspector measures the manufactured part it has to be 300cm long however the tolerance means it can be anywhere between 299.5cm to 300.5cm and not .01 of a cm more or less than the tolerance dimensions.
The reason I am boring the tits off my avid readers is to clarify that a tolerance has to have a number and it is either in tolerance or it is a fail.
When St Marcus was ”within tolerance” how was that measured?
What is the tolerance as to what is allowed?
Unless I see a measurement for what the tolerance is then I think we are being taken for cunts by PGMOL as it is open to being subject to the VAR opinion and nothing specific other than shirt colour or shade of red.

The tolerance is whatever they want it be to support the brand.

@Stephen230 No problem, VAR is a touchy subject with some of us. We seem to do it different to Europe and we do it in virtual secrecy. I have no problem with VAR when used correctly, awarding Newcastle the goal for instance but...............
