I think it one of those games we would win nine times out of ten, but I think Joe could have done better with the free kick ( standing to far to his right) although well struck the ball was a fair distance from Joe's left post, and the last goal, charging out to far, the villa guy still had a lot to do, but as I say nine times out of ten we would have won

Another crucial point for me was why have two on two at the back for there third goal, surely an extra defender always ??

I disagree. If we kept the pressure we would've scored a third and killed it. Instead, we we gave them a breather and they made every kick counts. You cant expose your CBs and expect them not to make mistakes. We lost edge in the midfield (first line of defense) by removing Nasri. Aside from an offside goal, the game was going so well for us until the substitutions and tactics change.

I don't think Pellegrini wanted his team to give Villa any sort of breather: IMO, he brought Navas on to try and strike a killer blow. After Nasri left, most of the play remained in the Villa half.

We'll just have to disagree.

He didn't. He's mucked up the tactics which allowed them the breather. changed too much too quick.

I take it all these coaching badges and premier league experience you have, brings you to this conclusion about
tactics and I thought they were minty or orange.

We absolutely weren't under instructions to do that. I dunno if anybody else caught it but once Dzeko scored and everybody huddled around. MP was screaming and yelling to get back to finish the job, I've noticed that so far celebrations have been kept to a minimum but MP looked very frustrated with that one. I think that the players get real arrogant and forget to actually finish the job for a full 90+ minutes.

Its exactly what happened last season, dominate play but not finishing teams off. Happened for Mancini and now for Pellegrini , need to start turning dominance into goals.

Could explain why Mancini wanted Cavani. Dominating possession against lesser teams doesn't impress me in the slightest. It's what you do with it that counts.

Dominating possession increases the probability of winning significantly. If this team continues to dominate possession, the wins will stack up, home and away.

Left it until now due to the usual knee-jerk shit. Weirdly, whilst disappointed we've not won the game, I'm remarkably sanguine. I know it's been a bit up and down this season so far in places, but the ups have shown me enough to not be too worried.

I doubt that Pellegrini has told them not to keep pressing. I do think that it will take time for the players to make continual pressing second nature.

I didn't watched the game,followed it on BBC but if we can't win away games against Cardiff n villa especially after taking the lead then we should all kiss goodbye to the title,this hot n cold form might get us second place but title will b a long shot if this continues

I think it's very unfair to criticise the manager. It wasn't his fault we lost the game. Nastasic for the free kick (unnecessary) and
him and Kompany for the third were mistakes which cost us the game.

I was a big fan of Mancini, but am now happy with Pellegrini. I think our football is so much better going forward,
we now have the tempo and link up everybody complained was lacking under Mancini. Sure everybody will say
"We wouldn't have let those goals in under Mancini" but I would say "Prove that to me and also prove to me
that we would have scored our goals under Mancini".

We can't prove anything, Mancini has gone. Thanks Roberto for EVRYTHING. Lets give Pellegrini some time and
i'm sure our teething problems will be solved.

Lot of possession , little created, no world class forward. With Sergio we would of opened villa up. Both our goals were slightly fortunate and that's about that. We were the better side but yet again came away with fuck all. Expect more results like this until we become used to grinding out results away.

We had 21 shots on goal, so the "little created" comment doesn't really make sense. And "Both our goals were slightly fortunate", really?

So if we break it down we scored off 2 set players. Negredo, Kolarov, Jovetic and Nasri had shots at the keeper. So 15 of those were high wide and not very handsome. The point the guy is making is clear cut chances. Which he is right about.

Exactly my point, I believe Negrado is a good foil, as is Dzeko, play them together and I am unconvinced we are a world class attack. As for our goals I say fortunate as yayas goal would of been saved 9 out 10 times and Dzeko's came off his back.

We have to win all our homes..Away wins are never set in stone and if we set off down that road then we are no better than rags..
we should try to win them of course,but we shouldnt expect them..Away games in this league are difficult for all the top teams..
I keep saying til im blue in the face,on one hand we are all proud that the prem is the best/toughest league in the world,on the other hand we get all girly if we lose away..Remember the old days when we every now and then used get results against top teams coming to us?? were we better that them?? er no...we just had home advantage and the rub of the green..yesterday Villa had the home advantage and the rub of the green..

We played very well yesterday and on most days that game would have been wrapped by half time..

We really can't be sure how this season will pan out but I there's a good chance it won't be one where you can only afford to lose four or five games in the season if you want to win the title. I wouldn't want to be any further behind the top team than we are now come 1 January but how many more defeats we can afford to ensure that we are no worse off than that, I couldn't say. I do think we are going to need to to go on a really good run before too long though if we are to win the title.

I don't think Villa scored three goals because we were open defensively; you can aim that criticism at the third but not the first two of their goals. I am not really convinced that being open was to blame for the third; shit play from back to front was. Aside form our CB's cocking-up, one of our forwards should have slowed Guzan down and Hart should have done better. Hart needed to have had a higher starting position to defend the third or should have stayed in his box and made the attacker do more work to beat him.


Anway, I'm getting bored with discussing yesterday, people can nitpick all they like but I am writing it off as a "shit happens" day. If we have several of them, I'll reappraise that view.

we are not any better going forward now than we were under Mancini , have you forgotten all the thrashings we dished out under him, where has this myth come from that we couldn't score when Mancini was in charge. One thing is true though, we are a lot weaker in defence under Pellegrini.Not a good combination.

The two at should have been more than enough to deal with what was , in effect , just a basic goalkeeping clearance ..... but in all honesty the pair of them made a right balls of things ..... neither of them really made a serious attempt to intercept the ball , and it broke for the Villa player to beat Joe Hart and score.

I couldn't quite believe what i was seeing ...... somebody like Van Buyten , Dave Watson , Andy Morrison , or Mick McCarthy , in their heydays , would have made sure that was cut out , no doubt about that !

One more thing. Why when there's a free kick dead centre of the goal, don't Managers put 1 player on the goal line alongside the Keeper? It's going to go in either corner. If the attacking team want to swap the 6 yard box, it will only make it harder for the free kick taker to score, due to the amout of players in the way. Just a thought.
