Virgin

No different to losing a phone line, it's also done sectionally so linking to a cab to underground cables at various points.
That’s why I said it will be interesting to see how it performs. When I had FTTP installed, the installer wouldn’t install it in the preferred position because he said it would put too much stress on the fibre optic cable. So stringing it loosely between poles open to the elements and wildlife may be an issue if not done right. Or maybe they have better cables now.

had a text this morning from them telling me they were switching me to digital landline on the 14th, so thats something else that wont work then

Their AS (autonomous system) is up and down like a yoyo ladies and gents. They have all their stuff on their own ASN to so they have no redundancy so no point calling 150 or logging in at https://www.virginmedia.com/ etc because it won't work.
So that's why when their service is down, you can't even log on to report a loss of service. Which probably makes their reliability look much better than the reality, and helps them avoid excess compensation.

You can't really register a loss of service after they fix it either, as that feature is linked to their service checker, which again is usually down when virgin is down. Would think OFCOM would be interested in that.

I've just renewed for another 18 months.

And only because I got it cheaper than my previous package. Was paying £92 a month but now paying £79 a month for everything.
(Biggest tv bundle, sky sports and cinema, Broadband and phone plus they've thrown Netflix in as well)

Was sacking them off in June when my deal expired but the £79 a month was too good to miss.

Just to report back on what virgin offered me...

Started with them wanting an increase of £15 per month to £71 for the bigger bundle. That's an increase of 26% for a household where one is getting no pay increase and the other may get the 5% NHS one hopefully.

Told them we can't afford that and they offered a a choice of £69 for 18 months (yes, a £2 reduction on the proposed increase!), or dropping down to the big bundle without BT etc for £46 per month. It's basically freeview and broadband from what I can tell, so you may as well just go broadband only.

Told them neither was acceptable, so after checking with a manager them came back to offer me a roll over at £56 per month for 3 months. I've accepted, mostly as that gets me though to the end of the season with bt for the champions league, but also because it gives me time to look elsewhere.

Trouble is, broadband deals on their own are around £30 per month and no fibre optic in our area yet, and sky are really pushing this sky glass thing but I've heard nothing but bad things about it.

So the missus and I have decided we just go down the broadband only option and cancel with virgin for telly, because after 90 days of no virgin at a household apparently my wife can sign up on the £49 new customers bigger bundle for 18 months (the bundle we currently have) which they apparently cannot offer to existing customers...

What a faff, it's like an operation in draining customer loyalty.

Seems really hit and miss with what they offer to each customer...

I had a email some weeks ago, said mine was going up, so I do what I always go I give them a bell. Got somebody on and said I wasn't going to pay it, after 50 mins he said he got me a better deal so I agreed. Got another email saying my contract was staying same, got back on and got a no mark saying I agreed to it, so I said I was leaving, he said he pass me to someone else, I got a nice lady on, told her what went on and she said she would try to get a bit off, not only she got me less money but also give me sky movies and Netflix for 18 month so got bt sports sky sports 500 download and all my other items I had, argue with any provider to get a better deal

If that is for 12 months with no increase plus you can renegotiate when the 12 months up it’s a great deal!

April 2024 there is a 3% increase which will take it to around £82 which I'm not too fussed about as it's still cheaper than previously. Don't think I can renegotiate until a month before my deal is up.

As long as it stays under £92 for the 18 months I'll be happy.
