Was it all a big mistake

If we won the quadruple next season with the same players it would only confirm that the last two years have been wasted rather than holistic.
One thing is certain. Come August, this season will be forgotten as happens every year. That's why we all love the game.

i for one will cherish that season of 13/14 and the outrageous amount of goals, the frankly sexual football and the league title. i loved it.

Mancini had his flaws: what has he done since leaving City? But he can build a team.

Pellegrini has failed despite good signings.

The season is not over yet. There is still time to respond but the manager is draining the potential of the team. I suspect he is liked by the players, but that doesn't mean much when he makes such obvious selection errors, and worst of all he does not learn from these errors. It is hard to accept that a very experienced manager like Pellegrini should in one of the biggest jobs of his career end up in this way. I suspect that he is just being stubborn. You have to be your own man, but you also have to have grasp on reality.

The fact Chelsea are where they are, the Rags are shite, Liverpool are inconsistent, Arsenal have been typically up and down and we've still not won the league despite our squad is evidence of why Pellegrini's time at the club has been unsuccessful. We've qualified for the knockouts in the CL, brilliant. But we've got even further away from being a side capable of winning it so what does it matter? Our co-efficient is going to be better, but now, winning the league is more important than that so again what does that matter at the moment? Makes our group slightly easier, but we're still almost guaranteed a tough one.

And for all of his ability to get us to the knockouts, he might not qualify us for the CL this season which would completely trump any success he's had in the competition. One league title and two league cups. As much as the league cup is a major competition, we should only ever celebrate it if we've won it playing youth players or a weaker side. We're aiming far too high to worry about that. The FA Cup would be a celebrated achievement, the league cup shouldn't be celebrated too highly with our ambitions. We're looking at a City side failing to beat Leicester or Spuds to the title... as good as they've been the points tally they amass will be below what we'd expect to get each season.

We were at the top of table though.

yes we were, more through individual brilliance than having a great system or game plan imo. this squad was and still is too good to have only won once again the top 9 side in the premiership. we are currently 16th in the form guide table with an away match against the mighty bournmouth on the horizon. if we keep audrey robert i predict we only real have a chance we have of winning is against west brom at home.

The simple fact is that if it wasn't for Mancini none of the success Pellers had would have followed.

It's been well documented that Roberto rubbed some players up the wrong way but he at least drilled the side well and fitted round pegs in round holes.

Pellers may be a good likeable chap but he is no tactician and I don't think he has the stomach to stand up to certain players e.g. Yaya.

Mancini had the stomach to stand up to top players but perhaps needed to tone it down a notch or two. He also could spot a player too.

I guess what really gets to me is that City should have won at least a further 2 EPL titles and signed quality instead of quantity since Mancini's era

It's been a freak season to be fair.
Not celebrating the cup win is a bit weak, although I agree it's sweeter when seen as the cherry on top of a epl title.
I personally believe we've to many players on their way out, yaya etc, and silva looks to be injured, but one of the few who plays through the pain.
I think we've lost our edge, our nasty streak, under pellers we've become almost polite, like an 'after you sir' attitude has overtaken the midfield.
There's going to be a shake up, and I think it's going to be bigger than most expect.

It would have been hard to get in a young up and coming manager and say - look mate it dosent matter how well you've done, in three years time you'll be out on your ear as were getting Pep in instead.

what am I talking about, 99% of people would have jumped at the chance of managing us and even with mourinhioesqe short term planning our squad wouldnt have been in worse shape

I agree , 7 players better than what we have now coming in a couple from the academy and 7-8 at least going.

I think we will have a new captain come August as well as least we should have.
