Wesley Sneijder

So do you think Chelsea is after both Snejider and Modric?
I really can't see that happening considering the midfield we already have. Unless there is a radical change on the cards unlike anything we've seen since Mourinho. The smart money is on one or the other.

I hope you get Modric and we get Sneijder, because that'll mean United get neither.

Thanks for the reply. And I quite agree.

Do you see either one as a future replacement for Lampard?

While Sneijder is logically better to take over from Lampard (they do fulfil similar roles with Sneijder being more creative but Lampard netting more goals per season) I think Modric is the better idea. Modric plays deeper and would therefore improve our squad without taking game time away from Josh McEachran (who I feel is a good bet to replace Lampard) and is also an academy player. If we got Sneijder that'd hinder his development significantly because he'll be starting for top teams for a few years yet.

If the people in charge have come to the same conclusions on this as I (and most Chelsea fans) have then I suspect we'll only go for Sneijder if Modric absolutely cannot be prised away from 3 point Lane.

I've long been an advocate of actually inverting the midfield, with one holder and two link midfielders . Perfect for ya ya and Milner with our current personnel . Not for the hardest games but for most

maybe big sam was a revolutionary after all? time to bring back the 'long ball' game - we can save money and hasstle.....the new wimbledon. all go on our well earned hols and get some sleep at night without worrying about the transfers of this and that lightweight poofta. No more silver ponsy boots, gloves, snoods and earrings -

Bring in THE DIRTY DOZEN! A whole bunch of Gerry Gows............nice.
Can we put together a current dirty bastards eleven - with estimated costs and damage potential?

All the paper talk today is about Nige convincing Sneijder to join us.

From the OS rumour page:

We already knew that no stone is left unturned when it comes to the club's transfer policy, but now it seems that Nigel de Jong is lending a helping hand, according to the Daily Star.

And when Nige rings, you make sure you pick up before the phone goes to voicemail ...

Here's what Steve Millar reckons: "Nigel de Jong is hoping to talk close friend Wesley Sneijder into joining him at Manchester City.

"De Jong and Sneijder came through the Ajax academy system together and have remained good pals. De Jong bigged-up life at Eastlands to Sneijder during last year’s World Cup in South Africa.

"And the City star has even been phoning Sneijder while he has been on holiday to tell him all about life in Manchester."

No, it probably won't trouble the judges at the best-writing awards, but we get the message ... some might consider it an offer you couldn't refuse.

Come on, Nige, you can be our new Garry Cook if you pull this one off! Haha.

With the potential signing of Sanchez as well, who knows if Nigel might be pushing himself out of the door a bit. Would we truly need two dmids with their possession? When it comes down to one d-mid I'm going with Yaya even though I love de Jong

Whatever position they play can people not get used to the concept of more than 11 players? We can't possibly keep playing the same people in the Champion's Lg & the Premier League.

He doesn't play the DM role for us now, but I can see a future where he will. Whether we like it or not we were a bit thin in attacking midfield, pushed closer to top Yaya held up the ball and made some good runs. But he's just not built to do it for 38 games plus CL. Yaya was asked by Bobby to play more forward because we didn't have a guy with his passing and holdup. But if we get Sneijder and Sanchez we will. Im not saying he's out of the starting XI but Sneijder actually plays the role Mancini asked of Toure and you better believe Toure isn't out of the Xi

Exactly my point is that de Jong was very much a 90 minute lock every game. We have a lot of midfielder and a lot of different types of opponents. We'll also be entering situations where Bobby might want to pair Tevez or Eto'o with Dzeko or Balotelli leaving one midfielder. We placed 4th in goals scored, in the last 3 out of 4 seasons the team with the most goals scored won the league.

Looks nice, but i'd personally still rather Tevez upfront. I'm 70% Eto'o could do the job but if he didn't then we may be well farked (If Dzeko doesnt chip in this season either)

We haven't heard from Tevez, but I am going to assume he stays. If he stays we have no reason to swap him for this player, it seems we are only after 4 players and the amount we can spend on this player will no doubt be influenced by whether or not we sign Sanchez and if we do for how much. If we had to cough up the full amounts we would be spending 44m on Sanchez and I suspect nearly 50m on Sneijder. Now TH stated moons ago we we spend about 105 in total, so if my maths are correct that leaves us with 11m to spend on a centre back and left back. Cissokho has been quoted at 18 -20m I believe, so taking the 20m tops means we have an overspend of 9m plus whatever it takes to get Vertonghen wihich may be another 10m meaning we need to claw back from sales of Bellamy Ade and the like 19m. 4m for Bellamy lets halve that and call it 2m, and 10m for Ade and 10m to Boetang which should just see us within limits for what we have to spend.

your figure are wrong becouse sneijder will not cost 50m. if he come to City he'll cost tevez.

but tbh still i cant see a mancini interested in sneijder.
