Who can we actually class as world class players?

Contributing to this thread is like trying to platt fog.

Whilst I accept there is no formal or dictionary definition of "world class", it is commonly accepted amongst football people that it means what I said above.

There can't have been one "world class" player in 30 years, or just two playing today.

It's silly.

Don't get me started on whether Rooney is world class because he ain't..!!!
We play a poor side on Friday a world class player would run this game let's
just c how world class Rooney is. He's more chance of getting sent of with
frustration on not getting enough of the ball

I expect a certain amount of blinkeredness amongst our fans about a United player.

Rooney would get in any side in the world. That's world class in anyone's book.

I believe that, regardless of what you think, if you polled the 100 top club managers in the world and asked them if they would put Wayne Rooney in their side, you'd get 100 "Yes"s.

He's the best player in England and one of the best in the world.

In fact I'd go further and say he's the best striker in the world.

I was pretty much agreeing with all of that until you went and spoilt it with the last line.

He's world class sure. He would get in the world squad. But would he be an automatic first choice ahead of Messi, Eto'o, Drogba, Torres etc? Don't be daft.

You can have two strikers. Mine would be Messi and Rooney.

Rooney's miles ahead of Eto's and Drogba for me.

Torres is a fine striker and finisher but Rooney's more dangerous all round. Stronger, more agressive, better at running at people, more creative.

He totally carried the worst United team for years last season. Torres can't do that.

So it's Messi and Rooney up front for me, Torres on the bench and the other two not even on the plane.

Torres would be the second name on my team sheet after Messi.

Rooney is probably the better player to have in your squad, but only because he's more durable - a factor that tends to get overlooked in these debates.

Torres is the best striker I've seen in years, possibly ever - height, speed, strength, finishing, dribbling, heading, impossible goals from outside the box. He can score against the good sides and the bad sides, it makes no difference.

He is one of the few who can give any centre back pairing in the world a run for their money playing up top on his own. He is a quite supreme player.

And we have even mentioned David Villa. Or Ibrahimovic.

Nope, Rooney for me is like Tevez only a little better. But not as good a striker as Drogba, Torres or Eto'o imho. Let alone Messi.

as much as i hate to say rooney is one of the best in the world and is past the likes of etoo . Drogba is a completely different player but in some aspects ronney betters him but in some other aspects drogba betters him. Rooney and messi would be my choice upfront maybe drogba but i believe rooney and messi can create more something out of nothings ( if that can be used ina sentence ) than drogba can

Tévez, Robinho and Adebayor are the only ones I think we have now, but from the players we've been strongly linked with id say:

Silva, Dani Alves, Ibrahimovic and Yaya Touré are all world class, then you've got players like D'zecko that I couldn't say if they are or not untill I see more of them.

I was in lille around January/february for business and got free tickets for a lille game against lens
Seeing eden hazard play he is definatly the next worlds best. I could not belive how good he was. Every time he got the ball he would beat players make pinpoint passes he even scored the only goal.
If city were to beat arsenal for his signature then we could expect after a season or two all the kids wearing merchandise with his name on and all the japanese and koreans with his name on shirts.

imho kompany is world class. i think we can agree that rooney is a world class player but in the recent derby kompany dominated him.
i think in 3 years or so kompany will be talked about as the best centre half in world football.

Does anyone else find it quite funny that only a handful of people in this thread will admit that Rooney is world class (as in he would get in most club teams in the world) but there are plenty of people saying people like Kompany, Barry, Ade, Given, De Jong, Toure (sp?) and Tevez are world class!. Nothing wrong with a bit of bias towards your own team but at least try and be semi partial!.
