Re: Who was the most clueless City manager ever? Apart from
Unable to make my mind up between Ball and Clark as our worst ever with Big Mal the second time around a close second. Who in their right minds gets rid of Asa, Tueart, Gary Owen and Peter Barnes ?
I had such high hopes for Frank Clark as well as he had done a pretty decent job at Forest
From private conversations with our most intelligent Mod I now know that Pearce is a really nasty peace of work and his heroics for the National side (and love of "The Stranglers") have fooled most but I genuinely believe he didn't do that badly at City - I was working most Saturday afternoons and unlike most of you I didn't have to witness the dross on offer but I never felt we were in any danger of going down.
His defence with Mills - Jordan/Thatcher - Dunne - Distin - Micah and Ned (I think) making a few appearances each was as safe as houses.
Hughes is another who gets a bum rap. He had money and didn't always spend it wisely but when we performed we really performed. His very last game against Sunderland; the 4-3 at home was amazing. Two goals from Rocky Santa Sickbed, the public becoming aware of a young kid at Sunderland called Jordan Henderson; an absolutely classic game. Going forward that day, City put Barcelona to shame. Defending our goal, we made the "Dog and Dart" from any Sunday morning league howl with derision. I would have given Hughes until the end of the season purely on account of the fact that he had got us past a quarter final. I was in dreamland !
No denying though that Mr M wasn't an upgrade. Even I am not that stupid. I had moved on before "Match of the Day" had come on, the night of Hughes's dismissal.
I was never too keen on lots of the others. Saunders looked a twat and from what I heard he acted liked one. Bond was all smoke and mirrors and anyone would have looked good after the mess Allison made. Coppell was a quitter and Kendall was a traitor. Mel Machin got a bit lucky with such a quality crop of youngsters coming through and then Swales panicked after a bad start and Horton I never really took to but I can't put my finger on why.
I liked what Sven did and loved the Keegan times and the only time Royle upset me was the silliness over his court claims.
Just my opinion, but anybody who names our worst ever manager outside of the Ball,Clark,Allison threesome doesn't really understand Football or City.
