managers these days are under huge pressure to deliver and are judged on today's results, not tomorrows. I can totally understand any manager under these pressures simply picking the players who can do the job. In fact I can understand what I would imagine mancini's retort would be if offered criticism on this: 'you make me the players and I will play them'.IcriedwhenTueartleft said:moomba said:Didsbury Dave said:made me laugh. Do you think Jose will bring more youth through?
I think it is difficult these days with the pressure of managing a top club to be able to gamble on the younger players, it's a results game and I'm not sure that many of the really top current managers such as Jose M and Pep Guardiola can show they have done this. They can bring the odd one through no doubt but all, including Mancini, are never going to suddenly stick 4/5 into the first team...it's too much of a gamble for them.
Having said that, I don't think Mancini has really brought anybody through as yet, has he (?) and he's been here 3 years.
Interestingly the club has invested hugely in the academy and has made the head of it a big job, currently the responsibility of Marwood, reporting to the barca duo. So now someone is more accountable long term for the delivery if players to the first team, and it isn't the manager.
