Why we will win the league!

It’s all hypothetical obviously but go out all guns blazing to the rags in the cup and lose the league to the scousers because we’re exhausted from trying to win against elite teams and the referee and VAR and uefa’s gang of cvnts ? Fuck that, I’ll take the domestic treble mate

We need to get better at controlling games in Europe. We concede too many goals still and that costs us. Rarely do we manage to dominate as we can domestically. If we can exert more control in Europe, keep the ball, dominate possession and them step the pace up and get goals, we can challenge on all fronts.

The CL is a distraction from the league. It helps take pressure off. This squad managed to beat Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea in a week and then go to Schalke, get bad decisions and still win, before then winning a penalty shootout after 120mins against Chelsea and two subsequent league games where the opposition made life tough.

If that doesn't give you confidence, I don't know what will. There are 8 games left in the league, we are a win away from the FA Cup semi finals and a draw or even 1-0 defeat away from CL quarters. We will need some luck, but this squad can fight on all fronts.

Don’t want to be pedantic, but it’s 9 league games left.

Hard to do given a lot of the officiating we face where we'd have to be shot to get a free kick but are constantly guilty of the yellow card offence of 'legally winning back possession'.

We’re looking leggy though, at some point it’ll catch up with us, go out of the CL next week and the fatigue factor lessens dramatically

If we go out of CL with a whimper (next week as you suggest) it will impact negatively on everything else ... which competition do you think our players dream of playing in the semi final and final of or dream of lifting the trophy? Only one ... like it or not, that’s CL ... same is true for Pep too ... and the club on the whole including the hierarchy and most probably owners too ...

So fail in that again at R16 or even QFs this season and watch us lose everything else too ... why can’t everyone just see that simple point? As much as the game is played between the two goals, it’s the same between the two ears of each player ... Liverpool haven’t lost this lead due to their game on the field ... they’re losing it inside their heads ... and having these long breaks and out of all the cups while we went on and lifted one cup and are still vying for all the rest is killing them in their heads and mood in that camp ...

So no thanks, play one game at a time and yes everything is ON!

The whole fixture pileup is a myth!! (I’ve already written about it in the other Our Fixtures till the end thread).

Are people getting a little carried a

The manager always bangs on about one game at a time. I think some are getting a bit carried away about Liverpool's demise - there's a good Spike Milligan quote that is worth a read. One game at a time......

Our players are consummate professionals, losing out in one comp would if anything make them hungrier to put it right by winning the others.

Me or you don’t have access to the sports science stats so we’re speculating one way or the other about how tired they are but to me they looked fvcked against West Ham and Chelsea and if the idea that fixture pile ups fuck you up is a myth why does pep mention it so often.

I think we are able to get past Schalke somehow without too much of a drama,
just to be part of an interesting draw to witness who we play in the QFs.
Then we still can decide to play the EDS kids and surrender to save our legs for Palace.

If you ask me fatigue will be completely forgotten if Real vs City is on the notice board.

There also is an international break ahead and most injured players should be back after that, hopefully.
You have a point though and finishing off games early is much appreciated at this point.

This post just gave me an erection

The most ridiculous comments I hear from opposing fans is 'I'd rather be chasing the top team - as the pressure's always on the team that's leading'. That is the biggest load of illogical bullshit you could ever wish to hear hear! Let's break that comment down logically, i.e. we prefer to be chasing, because the pressure's off - however, the minute we move above that team we're gonna be fooked - because we're now the leading team, and consequently the pressure's now on us. Some of these 'excuses' to justify trailing behind the leading team really do defy belief!
