Other names in frame suggests City not wanting to be held to ransome on their preferred target.
I say we don't need either Bony or Benteke. Jovetic is back now, Aguero should be back in the next game or two and Dzeko should be returning as well. Also , even though he isn't a striker, Milner was playing well up front. We could maybe go for one of them in the summer, when we sell Negredo, but we don't really need them right now.

Wilfried Bony has told Swansea City that he would be interested in moving to a Champions League club this month.
As revealed by Telegraph Sport last week, Manchester City have made inquiries about how much it would cost to sign Bony this month as they assess their striker options.
Real Madrid have also expressed a tentative interest in Bony and the Ivory Coast international is aware that he is in demand.
Bony signed a new Swansea contract in November, which eradicated the £19 million release clause that was in his initial deal. That means Huw Jenkins, the Swansea chairman, can name his price for Bony or reject all bids this month. But the player, 26, signed his new contract in the belief that he would be allowed to speak to Champions League clubs.
Bony is happy at Swansea and grateful for the opportunity he has been given, but does not want to be denied the chance to play at the highest level.
Having been told that a deal to sign Bony this month could cost a total of £50 million in transfer fee and wages, City have been assessing whether it makes sense to make a bid. Swansea will hold out for around £30 million for Bony, who would expect a four-year contract worth £100,000 a week.
The Welsh club fear the player’s head could be turned even more while he is on international duty with the Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations. Bony and his Ivory Coast team-mates are scheduled to go for warm-weather training ahead of the tournament in Abu Dhabi, home of City’s owners. Yaya Touré will also be part of that squad.
Bony has scored nine times for Swansea this season, including a goal at the Etihad against City at the end of November that gave his team a shock lead until the hosts hit back.
Swansea could be forced into making a difficult decision over Bony if either City or Real follow up their interest this month, particularly as his deputy, Bafétimbi Gomis, wants to quit the Welsh club after becoming frustrated at spending so much time on the substitutes’ bench. He has started merely four Premier League games since joining on a free transfer last summer.
Garry Monk, the Swansea manager, handed Gomis a start in the FA Cup ahead of Bony and the Frenchman responded with two goals in the 6-2 third-round victory at Tranmere on Saturday. But that game is unlikely to change the mind of Gomis, who has attracted interest from Crystal Palace and overseas clubs. Palace have made an inquiry, but Swansea are understood to value the 29-year-old at around £8 million.
With doubts surrounding the futures of Bony and Gomis, Swansea signed Portuguese striker Nelson Oliveira on loan from Benfica until the end of the season before this month’s transfer window had officially opened.

If we can get him sub £30m I think its a no brainer. Top top player and possesses everything we are lacking. Natural instinct, power, strength, finishing ability, superb link up play (Dzeko and Jovetic do not have this at all) as well as the ability to hold up the ball.
Would be a great acquisition and for me I would love very much to see him come to city and take us further in our development.
Doubt he would be registered for our CL squad this season. Even if he would be probably wouldnt get much playing time vs Barca. Probably not even on bench if other strikers are fit.
Also signing him now could be a risk as we get him for 30m this weekend, he gets injured in Africa Cup for 4 months ad first time he plays for us is maybe in May.

I disagree, he's better than Negredo and I think Negredo is better than Jovetic and Dzeko. A lot of people on here underestimating Bony, he's a quality player and exactly what we need.

I don't know why some on here think £25m is expensive for Bony.
£25m for a 20 goal a season proven PL striker is very respectable if you ask me, if you want the next level up i.e. Aguero, Suarez etc.. You need to be looking a paying £40m-£50m+.
I think Bony is the real deal and would flourish in our team, he doesn't have Edin's been there done that t-shirt but I definitely think he has more to his game than Edin does.

It is a mistake on this one. I do rate Bony but not as a world class player. But I what I meant was there aren't many world class available and they will not accept a squad role and will cost a lot more than £30m.

If we can buy him for more or less where we sold Negrodo (~25mil) I'd look at it as a player of similar ability but three years younger. And who presumably wants to be here!
As Jovetic does not really seem -or wants - to be a striker, per se, it would seem to fill a need. Might even help Jovetic find his best role here too. Play him wider or behind the #9, etc.
Aguero and Dzeko are just not enough in this department - plus I do believe there is some value in many fixtures in playing some variant of that horrible two striker system that failed so miserably here in 2013-14.

as i see it too.
we are a striker down and bony would fill that gap perfectly. if we are getting 25m for negrado then would be a cheap upgrade.

Bad move, Dzeko is the keeper and not Jovetic. Bony also will not get as much space here as he does at Swansea. Teams play us slightly differently. He is also not the most hardworking striker. City fans will hate that. Great composure in front of goal, a handful on corners kicks and a great header of the ball. Like the player, don't like the move.
