It does seem an underwhelming signing, and one that smacks of desperation, especially if we have to pay £30 million! Would we be even interested in him if we hadn't had the injuries to 3 strikers? It seems daft to fork out £30m just to cover injuries for a few weeks, especially as he's off to the AFCON for most of that time!

Jovetic is fit again (though for how long who knows!), and Dzeko & Kun not far behind, we've got this far without them and apart from Burnley we haven't actually missed them much. Better to sign a proper, absolute top quality striker in summer to replace either Dzeko or Jovetic. Maybe the thinking is he will replace one of them, but we're going for him early, who knows.

who would you suggest?

higuain - he is shit. Doesn't link with Kun, was shit for Madrid, is shit for napoli, and is more frustrating than dzeko

Cavani - overated and massive wages. People might go on about how he doesn't get to play central but with injuries to ibra he has plenty of chances but didn't score as a well as expected.

Lewandowski - Bayern not letting him go, he probably wont cone in anycass. Why would he want to leave?

Benzema - Real would be daft to let him go.

Which other front man comes close? As far as i am concerned I think the current system is good, with 1 up top meaning we only need 3 strikers. However, i think we can improve upon dzeko, he doesn't seem hungry this season and we can do with a powerful striker / target man in negredos mould. But it can wait till summer

If we're just looking for short term injury cover I'd go for Defoe; proven goalscorer and would be relatively cheap, not going to be away at AFCON and seems keen to come back to England.

Then in summer decide whether we want to replace one of Jovetic or Dzeko with someone better than either of them, or stick with the strikers we have and focus on strengthening the team elsewhere with Pogba or Reus.

i totally agree - except for the defoe part, I think our strikers are back, no point in getting Defoe.

we do need to move one of jovetic or dzeko in the next summer, maybe even both, regardless of our pursuit of Pogba/Koke/Reus

I agree that Dzeko is the one to go next, he's done great for us, but he only good enough when he's fit, and that is hardly ever since he is starting to get as injury prone as Kun, and he doesn't really fit into our style of playing tbh, Bony would fit in very well.

Jovetic has to go for me his injury record is poor and we can't be missing forwards throught the season bony, isco, and pogba/barkley in for me

He's a good player but it seems that £30 Million doesn't get you much these days

Have to agree!

Why pay £30million now for a striker who would be going to AFCON? Doesn't make sense to me.

Might as well wait until the summer when his price doesn't include the January inflated mark up and then get him for more of a true and realistic value.

I'd much rather us try for Pogba, to replace the void going to left with Yaya also going to the AFCON.

People on going on about ACON as though he will be there forever, its only a few weeks..

We have 2 strikers plus jovetic...... we are lacking,we need another.

Regardless of AFCON,which im sick of hearing as an excuse as it only lasts 5 weeks..........in Bony,we would be purchasing a very powerful and effective striker for the next 5 years, and who can yet improve.
We don't have a player with his attributes and his price would be little more than we are receiving for Negredo. His wage would also be in the sensible bracket.

Kun will always be our first choice and it has become apparent we generally play better with Silva in a central role.....so can anyone suggest a better player, even in the summer, that suits our requirements more?

It's obvious we should sell Aguero, Dzeko, Jovetic, Kompany, Silva and Nasri because they're all sick notes and Ya ya Toure because he's useless defensively and bone idle. Milner hasn't signed a new contract so he can do one. If Zabaleta makes another rash challenge we should ship him out and put in a monster bid for Luke Shaw. Bony is going to ACON so he's no use - Torres is a better punt. Apart from that we should win the title, the FA cup and the CL with the kids. Oh, and sack Pellegrini too for sticking with such a lod of muppets. One man band. Hope all the wise men on the transfer forum think this is an accurate summary of opinion on here!!!

I see the Ivory Coast training camp is in Abu Dhabi this month.

I have been banging the drum for Bony for quite a few months and would be really excited to see what he could offer in a City shirt.

He's got all the tools and as a club, we could offer him the belief that takes him to the very top level.

Still believe this could be Dzeko's last season, along with Kolarov, despite signing recent renewals.

Perhaps City feel the need to advance certain transfer targets, although Bony and AFCON still doesn't make sense.

The perfect foil for Sergio, however.
Non of this will happen, unless whopping offers come in,therefore none will happen. As for £30 million for Bony,it's laughable. No where near the standard we should be looking at !

And what standard is that?

One where a player has managed to score more goals than Aguero in the last 12 months?

Perhaps Costa, Suarez, Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic, Lewandowski?

Oh, wait a minute...

Just because you can't date Scarlett Johansson doesn't mean you should knock back Jennifer Lawrence.

Bony fits our team and requirements like a glove. Aguero needs a foil, he also needs someone who is happy to play second fiddle.

I would suggest people take another look at Bony's goal against QPR, yesterday, which was perfect in technique, very reminiscent of Lewandowski's for Dortmund against Madrid in the Champs League semi-final a couple of seasons ago.

The Afcon argument is a valid one, but so is the one which is that Bony will have his pick of £25m/£30m suitors this summer.

We will miss the boat for someone who is only 26 and can win us the league this season. We have an advantage over our main rivals in this January window, in terms of being able to spend and others not needing a striker.

honest question, do we? b/c the club report that is being referenced makes a net spend of 38 M

But are we actually going for him tolm or is it just paper chat?
