Swansea chairman: No Man City contact over Bony

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins says he has had no enquiries from clubs about Wilfried Bony - but stopped short of ruling out selling the player.

The powerful forward was named in some newspapers on Friday as a target for Manchester City and Chelsea, with reports suggesting Manuel Pellegrini's side were leading the chase.

While the Swansea chairman put the brakes on talk of a move for one of his star assets, he admitted the speculation was 'perfectly natural' and did not rule out a January sale.

“As things stand we have not had any contact from anyone with respect to Wilfried,” Jenkins told the Guardian . “It’s just speculation linked to a player who is the top scorer in 2014 in the Premier League – which is perfectly natural.”

Asked about a hypothetical offer in January, he said: “First and foremost I will consider everything that arises at the time. But as of yet we haven’t got anything to consider.

"Players move around – that’s a fact of life. The one thing I’ve learned over time is never say never in football.

"But officially at the moment we haven’t had any contact from Manchester City or anyone else about Wilfried.”

Bony has been in good form this season for Gary Monk's side, and only five players have scored more than his eight goals in the Premier League.

But any club wishing to move for the player would have to be aware of his impending departure for the African Cup of Nations, which could see the Ivorian striker miss a chunk of domestic action.

Pellegrini also downplayed talk of action in the January window, adding: “I don’t think we are going to be too busy in this window,” he said. “We have restrictions about the amount of money and about the number of players we can put in the Champions League so I don’t think it will be a special transfer window for our team.”

On Bony specifically he added: “I think that is just one of the 20 or 30 names I read from the beginning of the season until today about the players that we are interested in,” he said.

Bloody good signing if we get him .
Definite upgrade on Negredo and Balotelli this boy !!!

Keeping on topic... Chelsea are also apparently interested on Bony. I hope we sign him, I think he could be a revelation. Some rubbish on this thread masquerading as opinion. The one thing this player is not is Shite. You may not think he is a good fit but he is far from Shite.

For the right price Bony would be a good choice.

Apparently, he's had the £19m buyout clause removed from his contract which runs to 2018. The Swans chairman has ideas that he can fleece us. MCFC know when to walk away if the price isn't good value! DT quoted £50m this morning! Laughable.

City are currently 100/30 third favourites to be Bony's next club on Paddy Power. That's at any time, not just this window.

Add to that what Pellegrini has said and we can safely say this isn't going to happen.

Incidentally, a quick scan of the relevant threads on Swansea's forums reveals that their fans would snatch anyone's hand off for £30m. The consensus there is that he is nowhere near our standard.

True. £20-25m is just about right imho.

Am I the only one that doesn't seem I pressed with this guy? I really feel we could do better and that there is better out there.

As a squad option he will be what we need.

Who is he a significant upgrade on ?

Perhaps Jovetic, only because he's so injury prone. Aguero, Dzeko, Bony as our strikers doesn't sound too bad.

Call it a challenger to Dzeko and a player who can lighten Kun's load. We can't rely on any of the EDS lads just yet and our current crop are injury prone.

I'm not sure whether he's better than Dzeko (and I'm far from Edins biggest fan) and if we're going to stick with 4 4 2 ( I hope not but fear we will), I think we can get far better quality to support Kun for the £30 - £35 mil the swans would demand for Wilfried.

Bony has a really impressive goal record, most goals in the prem in 2014. I think Edins good, but he's to inconsistent. Bony will suit our style of play better too, seeing as he's got some pace and quick with his feet. Sign him up.

This and he will not take too much time settling in if he did sign for us.

It's a no brainer really, definitely an upgrade to edin.

While I agree that there are better strikers for that money and all he will be is a valuable squad member but we need a striker who can hit the ground running.

What an underwhelming signing this would be.

4-2-3-1 is the way to go so I don't see the need to add another big money striker who imo is no where the level required to challenge the likes of Munich and Madrid.

Probably just paper talk anyway

Although we can cope by having 3 strikers we cannot afford another injury crisis where we would have to put Milner up front again.
