Wolves PL (A) | Post Match Discussion

Ake looked slow and ponderous for both goals. The first failing to put the ball into touch the second miles away from his man. Needs t up his game next time out.

Something strange has happened City since going 2-0 against Forrest.
There is a weird frustration rife throughout the team since Rodri lost it and got sent off.
It’s bubbling under the surface of a lot of them.
We’ve looked way of it and distracted.

Hope they shake it off soon.

Three losses in a row without Rodri is on the cards but is not a good look.
Needs to be sorted, as we were playing great football up to now, even if we are not scoring enough.
This is true and how have we arrived at a position where we are so reliant upon one guy?
We have always been slightly off when say David Silva was not playing and obviously Kevin.
We are the best team in the world but one geezer doesn’t play and we are all thinking next week is going to be a disaster and after the last two games I can understand that attitude.
First 30 minutes last weekend no side on this planet could have lived with us and that can’t be just through one player so lets put this misfire behind us sharpish and do some business in the next seven days.

Nothing wrong with the team today, any team in the world would miss Rodders. As said a few posts ago, it was all down to poor application. We were slow, ponderous and we need to be clinical and take our chances.

Reuben was unlucky, his interception could have gone in any direction. We can complain about referees, there have been some appalling decisions in our games, but we had enough of the ball to lessen the refs influence and we didn’t use it.

We didn’t work hard enough and we didn’t want it enough.

Need a good performance on Wednesday to set us up for next weekend.

No, 3 points go to the winning team, not the better team. If you're trying to say that there's never been a match where a team has won when they didn't deserve to, or lost a match they didn't deserve to, that's compete nonsense.

If you don't score more than the opposition, you don't deserve to win.

They don't award points for possession etc. You don't score enough, you get nowt.

Got away with it for now. If that team faces Arsenal next week we won't be top any longer
I agree . Rodri is our most important player by a country mile and when he doesn’t play it shows . Bad day at the office but we need to cone out firing against arsenal .

We haven't actually scored from open play since Rodri's red card

Very similar performance to a few last year where it was all slow, sideways and no urgency

Today‘s thread features the long awaited renaissance of statistical fundamentalism. It‘s a phenomenon that has lain largely dormant since Sterling‘s Bambi era.

Could very well be three losses in three without Rodri. We’ve had a good start compared to what we normally have, but that was a bad result considering the fixtures we’ve got ahead of us. Even a point would have been decent today.
Agreed, but the team is far from settled. A good as we are with players coming in seemlessly it can only go so far. I think we’ve done fantastic considering the players we have missing right now not to mention not having Pep for many of the games.

despite of Ake's all time horrendous game I think we should play him again in the next game against Arsenal.
Due to absence of Rodri , Kovačić not so great in defense , lets go with Gvardiol on the DM postion and fuck that all.

Eddy Kyle Dias Akanji Ake Gvardiol Nunes Grealish Alvarez Doku Haaland
He definitely needs to play though, we need him against Saka.
Phil needs to play too, he's too good to not be in the team. I don't think there's room for both Grealish and Doku.
I would play Kovacic and Nunes, it will be a totally different game than today.
Kovacic was just coming back from injury and Nunes was getting major shit from the fans so they weren't at their best, but i like them both and it's good that they're both playing as it gives us the depth we needed. I would play them together on Wednesday to build up some more chemistry.
Saying that, today was one of those games where we're playing a tough tackling team and Phillips needed to start that, he looked alright when he came on and i thought this type of game is what he bought for!?

One thing that got me today was Phil. He looked like he didn't know where he was mean't to be playing today. He was wandering all over at times trying to find space and he got in the way of a Kovacic pass that lead to the first goal.
He is a brilliant player but with Kev out, he needs to be dictating the play more.

I know Alvarez is playing a similar game and they seem to want the same space but obviously they both need to playing. They're both deserving and both capable of brilliance. The free kick from Julian was a superb goal. The technique and placement of that shot was top notch.

But we got crowded out today overall and without Kev and Bernie we struggled getting through.

It has to be one of Erling's quietest games too.
He only really got a couple of chances, one that was brilliantly defended before the ball got to him and a left footed chance in the second half, but he is such a threat at all times.

I thought Dias and Akanji were our men of the match, both had great games.

Even though we are without Stones, Rodri, Bernie and Kev, we are looking pretty good still and these squad lads are getting good minutes and experiences which will be vital next spring.

I'm looking forward to the next two games as i think we'll win both!

COME ON CITY!!!

We’ve still got several gears to shift through. Can’t wait until Stones is back, just gives us that extra bit of class on the ball.

He's an enormous loss to us at the moment. I just hope we can get him fit and keep him fit. He's had a fair few injuries to date and is approaching the age of 30. We will have to be very careful in how we manage him. He's just one of four world class players currently missing in our midfield.
