Wolves - post match

He gets caught out quite a lot. It's the worst par of his game. Just he doesn't get pulled for the fouls that cover his defensive inabilities.
I think that's slightly disengeneous. He's a terrific player. Liverpool play with the full backs very high up the pitch, more like wingers. He was superb defensively against Leicester.

I think the Wolves forward did him. Ederson doesn't make a challenge. He leaves it. Wolves player runs into him imo. The watching ref didn't think so. Said it was a straight red but I thought he Wolves player played for the foul and bought it.

There were a whole host of errors. We got very complacent at 2-0. Players stopped showing for the ball and got careless with it. We made lots of defensive errors.

We are just a defensive basketcase with Ota and Fern together in defence. Neither can defend. Problems will continue whilst either is in the side. We all know that. That weakness is defence was why Wolves were pumping the long balls down the middle and it's what led to Ederson's sending off. He possible wanted to protect them and made an error of judgement. All the uncertainty comes from that central defensive pair but what can you do?

I wonder where Stones is
12 minutes on the clock, a mistake again from Ederson. Not learning from his oft repeated errors of judgement. Still, what does it matter? Made a great save at CP 3 months ago.

At his age I doubt he would be seeing many midfield minutes even if we had fit and in-form CBs.
He's not decrepit. He wouldn't be expected to be box to box. He reads the game well and is world class at playing through the lines.

The quality of ball in to de Bruyne improves ten fold when Fernandinho steps up now. And we all know what happens when we Bruyne gets fed

A fully fit Laporte and Sane back would certainly make a huge difference I think.
We don't have that many problems. There is one glaring weakness in our side.

There are of course other positions where we have ordinary players but it's fundamentally the same squad that took 198 points minus Kompany (who didn't play much), and D.Silva (Bernado and KDB) cover him, and Fernaindinho (and Rodri may or may not be able to cover for him).

Get Laporte back, and we could win the Champions League. If he struggles, and we're stuck with Fern and Ota then Utd could do us again. This side can not defend against forwards who run at our central defence. Otamendi dives in and sometimes he makes it, but sometime he doesn't. Fern has maybe had 1-2 good games in central defence but for the most part he is even more of a liability than Ota.

This is a huge flaw in our side but the remedy is straightforward. Get Stones and Laporte back. Stones it seems doesn't have Pep's confidence to play on his own.

I agree but before Laporte was injured, I don't recall him starting a game this season. I don't think we're going to see much more of him in midfield.

We know why he rushed out because the seed of doubt is planted by Ota and Fern. As a team we want to defend them.

Ederson has been a fantastic keeper for City. You seriously think he's a weakness? Players make mistakes. ALl of them. I don't think it was a sending off because he doesn't do much after missing the ball. The WOlves forward makes sure he catches Ederson and buys the foul. This happens all the time and pundits say if you make the challenge and don't get the ball it's your own fault so in that sense he was to blame but I think the Wolves player was clever.

At 2-0 we should have won that comfortably. We switched off and I could see it happening before they scored.

Great effort to be fair. Wolves are a very good team. Having 10 men took its toll in the end.

This. It's obviously hard after being beat but I'd be delighted if your team were wearing our blue. Pep has a couple of things to answer for with the subs, in my opinion. Think you would have at least got a draw if not more.

whole defence needs a clearout , with only laporte and ederson trustworthy..with walker and Zin solid squad options.

Stones, Mendy, Ottamendi , Bravo, should be ran out of the club

That's a joke. His game is fantastic going forward but he can't defend. Often caught out of position. Even Liverpool fans will admit that.
Disagree Marvin. Him and Robertson have a hardness about them at the back that gives Liverpool some solidity, in comparison we do not.

I sincerely hope that's not the case. He's too good not to play there in the big games. It's gundogan otherwise
Fern is 35 this season. He can't play forever. He wouldn't have played many games had there not been injuries. It would be stupid to play him at his age in a very demanding position.

Yes and in a post match thread where we get beat and are miles away from the most annoying team in the history of football there may be the odd negative, maybe even the odd disagreement about the size of the problem, and maybe the odd post from a happy clapper with the full set of of City mug, Jim jams and duvet set.

its called the let’s be positive thread. Or maybe the we can still win the league thread. Which after 2 or 3 defeats I could buy into, but after we are on course for 76 points this season, after the last 2, something is badly wrong.

I suspect it will usually be Rodrigo.
We'll need to play 2 in the big games.

I'd personally like to see Kev play a little deeper, he has the legs and the fortitude for it. If you could mould him he'd be the perfect pivot. Frees up a space for foden too.

Something like
Rodri Kev
Foden
Bernardo Aguero Sterling/Sane

You're welcome to disagree but I maintain that TAA is not great defensively. He can be got at defensively. His positioning is not great. Wan Bissaka is a good defender but rubbish going forward. TAA is the opposite. Great going forward but poor at the defensive aspects. You can play diags over TAA and catch him out. He's been targeted before especially in the CL e.g., Roma.

Robertson is a more all-rounded classic full back.
