Worst Goalkeeper

Martyn Margetson probably the worst Keeper City have had .
Perry Suckling wasn't much better .
Quite liked Eric Nixon .

Later on Nigel moved to Australia and played some national league football here and then played local league football I had the pleasure of playing against him a few times and he was quite a good keeper. I always doubted that he had time with City but I was wrong next time I have a beer with him I will have to mention this post.
Oh I remember him,he was a nice young man and yes he emigrated to Ozz, he lived near me, totally devoted to football and Match of the day Next time you’re having a beer, mention this post too, must have been nearly 50 yrs ago I was Clarkson then.

I was friends with the late Ron Healy and his family in Newall Green Wythenshawe and remember the Chelsea game. Maybe being a local lad the pressure was just too much.

Just out of interest but how did you manage to dig out a 5 year old thread, for your first and only post at that?

Edit: in fact the post you quote is getting on for 8 years old and the poster hasn't posted for 4 years (although he's still around by the looks).

I think it’s all about context, as most of our goalkeepers enjoyed a good professional career, (if not necessarily at City.)
The obvious poor performer would be Margetson, as he wasn’t even good enough when we were shite. However, you could make a strong argument that Dibble and Weaver were the weakest of the goalkeepers who played regularly. In fact Weaver’s City career was positively Negredoesque.

Personally, I always thought that David James had more ability than most, but lacked the desire to prove himself the best.

Margetson was the worst I have seen play for us. We got hammered by Everton 5-2 at home early in his career and he was subbed at half time with us 3-0 down. His stats say he was 6 foot but he looked shorter than that. Shots went through and under him he was terrible. Incredibly I think he is England's goalkeeping coach, I have no idea who thought this was a good idea if true.
