Worst pubs you have ever frequented...

Time to go further afield.

The Alehouse, Altamont springs, Florida. The worst of America all under one roof.

The tin shed with room for 3, Banjul Rd, Gambia. Loved it.

Croydon Station, turn left and 1st boozer you come to. Faakkin plastics.

The Pub With No Name, Harwood, Bolton. Stay on the road...

I've put this in Worst Pubs because theres more bad than good but maybe we should have one Best and Worst Pubs thread?

Basically this is the A6 pub crawl from Ardwick through Longsight and Levenshulme, finishing in Heaton Chapel. I've only included pubs that were directly on the A6 otherwise I'd be doing about 40+ pubs.

If I've forgotten any or got my facts wrong, please feel free to comment/take the piss

ARDWICK

The George & Dragon/now flats. I used to go in here after 5 A Side or the Apollo, once you got to know the regulars there were no problems. Was great seeing middle class students reactions to the place, quickest pints there'd ever drink. Sometimes they'ed just walk in and straight back out.

The Devonshire/McDonald's. Remember going in here as a kid with my grandad. Big old pub opposite Fort Ardwick. Must have knocked it down round the same time?

The Cock n'Bull/shops & flats. Another one from being a kid. Never ventured in as an adult as it looked dodgy as fuck.

The Wellington/Gold Cup - Still open? In the 90's some rum fuckers drank in here. Were always scrapping with willing and unwilling volunteers. Also Wes Browns local.

LONGSIGHT

The Lancaster/wasteland. Went in once while waiting for someone in Bookies. Besides the landlord I was the only person there. No surprise it shut. Might have been torched too? After it had closed I mean, not before I went in.

The New Victoria - Still open?. Another one from the 90's for me. Fights would spill out from the 192 into the pub and vice versa.

The Ducie Arms/Flats? I found this to be a decent pub anytime I was in there.

The Waggon and Horses/flats. Sure the landlord tried to torch it and that was the end of that. Another one I was lucky to go in as a child, proper bit of history, had priest holes and a stone step outside for using to get on horses. Was knocked down overnight, like Tommy Ducks.

The Church/Carpet Shop. Went a bit rasta in the 90's then lost its licence.

The Bay Horse/? When we played at Maine Rd would sometimes pass through here. Rough wasn't the word.

The SpringBank/O'Connors/New building now? Not as rough as Bay Horse but still tasty. Always an Irish pub but followed that trend of going 'Oirish' and then shutting down.

Wetherspoons was a strange one. Knew from day one it would fail. Ended up stinking of piss due to accepting the kind of people that Stockport Roads other pubs wouldn't. A curry house now?

The Crown/Ceile House/knocked down/Now Bank of Pakistan? Good pub in its day but again went all green n gold n shite.

3 stops on the 192 or a taxi would bring you to LEVENSHULME

The Midway/An adult college? Went through loads of incarnations ending its days as an African pub? Always enjoyed nights in there.

The Farmers Arms/looks done up now but not a pub? Rough but good is the simplest I can put it.

The Little Vic - still open? Fuck me what a scary place. Incomprehensible Irish accents and evil looks, maybe it was lost in translation and the threat was only perceived but didn't want to take the chance. As a result only went in a couple of times.

The A6 Bar/? Was never a pub as I was growing up but then a bit of money was spent creating it as a trendy bar. Sure it went Oirish and become a Ceile bar or something then closed?

The Church/Knocked down. Top pub but like a lot of the ones in Leve it ended up attracting scrotes, getting closed by police, reopening with different landlord. A lot of people fucked it off and was no surprise when it eventually closed.

Hennigans Sports Bar - Still open. Only ever gone in looking for City games. Plastic rag infested.

The Railway/Solicitors or estate agents. See the Church.

The Union Inn - Still open. When young was avoided like the plague as an old man haunt, not actually that bad now that I'm older.

M19 Bar - Still open. Similar to A6 bar earlier but has lasted longer. Too trendy n' poser for me though.

The Pack Horse/closed. Like the union it used to be shite and then went alright before shutting down. Strange one as it always seemed busy and had a good mix of City and Utd.

Fiddlers Green - Still open. This was a Midland bank before being converted into a pub and you could tell with an upstairs that felt like you were in an attic conversion. Has stayed the course though due to its clientele of plastic Irish of mainly rag extraction.

The Levenshulme Hotel. Never asked for a room at this hotel, one beer was enough. Don't know if it's still open, could barely tell then.

The Wheatsheaf/Double Glazing Shop. Never had any issues here but apparently went dodgy, then closed. It's final incarnation as a drinking venue was as a Polish club with knocking shop above.

Taxi to HEATON CHAPEL

The Chapel House/Tut n' Shive/Conor's/Tesco. Came and went as a good pub then shite pub/venue then Irish place actually not that bad before going tits up one last time.

This was usually the start/end point with Reddish one way and Heaton Moor the other. So I've never had chance to sample the delights of The Hope, The Magnet etc.

I need a beer after that post, anyone recommend any good pubs?

Great post but you missed off The Horseshoe in Leve ! I won a grand in their one Sunday night with that play your cards right / open the box shit ! Their fore its a great pub !!
WBT, I have been in every single one of those pubs. You could add The Mawson (opposite the Apollo set back off the green) and the Apsley Cottage (next to the Apollo) in Ardwick.
Leruzin, my mate Andy is the DJ in the Horseshoe, he probabl;y handed you the money

Anyone drunk in the falcon bearer in knutsford I haven't but it looks like a propper shit hole

been in a few times , yep a shithole , best describes it better than it was thou

On Saturday me and my mates got soaking wet looking for a pub that would be showing the city game. Anyway we headed for the Waldorf as some on here claim it is a blue pub?
Gets in there and the place must have had about ten punters in. The city pre match were on the big screen only for the fat bastard behind the bar to turn it over to the rag game after we had paid for our drinks. What made it worse the twat tried to rip me off with change. So for me the worse pub I name is the WALDORF!

The Pegasus - Aldershot
Vincents - Chatham

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the Peg, top pub (if you were careful). Now the Rat Pit down the road near the library, that was a different kettle of fish!

But there is absoloutely everything wrong with Aldershot. This past year I have moved to leafy surrey. A few month's ago, at a work party, I became very thirsty and refreshed myself with a number of glasses of Châteauneuf-du-Pape (certainly at least three). I got the last train home that I dared and promptly fell asleep. I awoke to find myself being prodded by a program from whatever musical was de rigueur at the time (an old woman was on the other end - she remarked she didn't want me to miss my stop, I graciously declined to tell her she was at least four stops late); I looked outside and I was in Aldershot.

Upon discovering that there wasn't a train back until 5:30am the next day, I had to get a taxi. I left the station and thought I'd stepped into a scene from Braveheart. There were people fighting everywhere.

And the taxi cost me £70 - but he let me smoke, so that was ok.

I've fallen out with that place after hearing the barman slagging some of the lads out on Sue and Sams remembrance drink for daring to ask that the 2 inches of froth in their glass was replaced with beer, us being charged to use the upstairs room despite the fact that they'd have made a good few quid out of the afternoon session and then the landlord coming in and shutting the windows despite it being red hot as it was.
