Think you're underestimating the influence agents have over players.

Most likely it's gone something like this:
Yaya: I'm thinking about the end of my career and want a Patrick Viera type role at Manchester City.
Agent: Ok, we'll need to open discussions with the club, do these things in the meantime to strengthen our position and it will force the club to take us more seriously.

Are you for real...? The guy is Yaya's best mate - he's pulled all the strings for years and has made Yaya a multi millionaire. He's in it for the money, nothing more, nothing less.

That's what happens when you have one of the world's best players on your books. Ronaldo left Man Utd as not more than a kid. Yaya is 31. He knows that if he doesn't move now, he'll stay, and see his contract out by which time none of the top clubs will be interested.

He's not at united though, he's at City, a club who have made it clear we are lowering the wage bill not upping it, he'll not get any more money from City, its not in the clubs interests. His agent knows that and is hoping someone else will bite.

What we do is start the season with yaya, cheer and applaud his every move. Pellers picks him right from the off. As soon as they window closes on September 1st. We drop him to the reserves and boo the **** like fuck. Play him for two mins in a cl game and then peddle him to some numb fuck club in Jan.

I wonder if Txiki and Soriano had played the percentages when they renewed Yaya's contract, Having dealt with him and his agent at Barcalona. Yaya stays and give's us another 2 or 3 great seasons fantastic. He plays for a move after we helped turn him into the player he is today and we receive a large transfer fee for a 31 year old at the very top of his game. Win Win situation in Txiki and Soriano eye's maybe.

I`m with you cm289,Soriano and Txiki are very shrewd and experienced operators, add that to their prior knowledge/experience of Yaya and you have called this 100% for me.

I think this statement after the world cup business is to allow seluk the time to do his work and see what he can get for yaya. Whether thats more money here or at another club i don't think either is too fussed but i think he's chosen one of the few clubs around that have the ability to say no to players to mess with.

I think some of the issue may be to do with the disrespect from our media - no credit for a world class goal in a cup final and driving us to a title win along with some cracking set pieces. If you only read papers then Stevie G had a much better season.
