It's not easier for a wingback as youre getting older. Some players like keepers or playmakers kan stay long in their carrreer because many of the required quality's don't decrease so fast with age.Same probably for youre more static type of targetmen maybe. Wingers and Wingbacks though hit their age limit quicker because they rely so much on pace, acelleration and stamina. Especially wingbacks who need to get up forwards which City requires need loads of speed and stamina. When a Wingback would start to lack that, you might see that he goes forward less often, or perhaps doesn't return soon enoughif the opposition break, or that he gets tired more easily, has more matches where he's less fit or become more injury prone because of more tired running. As i have read it from the observations of others, Zaba seems to have all these signs of decreasing abbilety.
There are player type's that you could switch in positions that they would be functional for a few more years, like if they can pass well or are rather headstrong and defensive they can thake a functional player role that is more static, but zabba is not really a very movable player in that regard, he's a fairly pure wingback who always relied for a great deal on his pace and stamina. He still has the great mentallity to go with it, but the body probably won't always follow, not on the murderous rate of the EPl i gather. Zaba's abbilety's in truth would probably decrease less fast by playing less matches at this point or even play more games for 45 minutes rather than the full game. But i also understand why some people don't want to reduce him to a glorified substitute. not all teams in the EPl will require their fullbacks to run the whole lenght i gather, and then a back with strenght and mentallity like Zaba can be still great for a few years.
