It's no surprise that Zab and Kompany, 2 of the best defenders in the league, are looking average for much of this season. There is zero defensive structure in place in this team, Pellegrini just can't do it. Even when Fernando plays he seems to get forward as much as Fernandinho and Toure.

Fernando should be told that he's not Fernandinho despite any resemblance. We need someone to stay back, and this makes watching Fernando's positioning in many of our games infuriating.

Also he has this occasional blank stare when the other team scores. Looks clueless when he should be defending.

Sagna is a better technical defender than Zaba, Zaba just has that lungs and fist-pumping quality that fans love. His stamina is vital going forward though, so it's a fairly even contest.

Since we have to play BarcelUefalona, we may call Sagna. He is less prone to make harsh tackles, generally tries to get a clean interception.
And since the Spaniards are the referees and UEFA 's favourites, you would want to prevent giving them any decision close to the 18 yards.

Your'e being blinkered by what Zabba has done as opposed to what he is doing now. Last night he was passed so easily and he has looked very shaky these last few weeks (I cannot see how that can be challenged). Today, Sagna is more secure than Zabba. That is not so say he won't regain form and regain his rightful place.

Some fans need to check out the word loyalty, this is a man who has bought into the whole City thing, taking in youth team games, accent bordering on manc and at the first sign of a dip in form, you want him out of the team and to be replaced by Sagna a free signing who knows no loyalty to anybody but his wallet, a player who in the past has slated City for being rich etc but more importantly has played only one good game in a City shirt since he signed.

For the record, I want Zab starting. But the reason why I do is simply because he is better! Had I thought Sagna was better, I'd rather he started. Loyalty is silly. We should always be pro putting the best players on the field. Thus, arguing anyone should start on the basis of loyalty is silly. You should start coz you are deemed better for the team! And I never booed anyone. That too is silly!

sagna offers nothing going forwards and sometimes i think he messes up our attacks by getting in navas way with overlapping runs that zaba normally does well. for CL we could just tell zaba to stay back and not get forward as much, apart from in the air he is superior to sagna in every way

As an attacking fullback it should be Zab, but against teams with quick wide players, like Hazard, then it,s got to be Sagna he is a better defender against quicker players and less likely to give away dangerous free kicks or worse. Horses for courses.

Are you saying that on his current form? I for one would disagree. I also thing Sagna is as good as Zaba for defensive duties.

If for Barca the remit is just to defend, I see little point in fielding an out of form Zaba to undertake those duties.

Or am I missing your point altogther?
