Amazing! Short term, yet still exciting to have such a legend in our squad. A true modern great.

Absolutely, giddy as fuck over this!
He's not the long term answer but he is the best RB of an entire generation hands down! he has won the lot what a guy to have around the club! Cannot wait to see a true world great put on a city shirt

it'll be like whe we won the league back in 2012, mancini switched zabba/richards and clichy/kolarov and i think pep will do the same with his new signings. i'd be delighted if we went into next season with walker/alves and mendy/bertrand switching. i think people forget we need to replace 2 right backs not just 1.

Those moaning at his age would have moaned last summer if we signed him at 33 but look at the season he just had.

He'll be one of two RB signings no doubt. And anything to keep Walker from playing every single game is a good thing to me tbf: assuming he's the other signing.
Those moaning are being willfully obtuse.

Fuckin disgraceful.. doesn't seem like 5 minutes since we were signing full backs like Gary Fleming

Now we're getting losers like this who have just been the MOM in the CL final, only got 100 caps for Brazil and won a pathetic 40 trophies in their career. Wtf is going on

PEP OUT, TXIKI OUT!!!

;-)

I'm not repeating anything, it's an underwhelming signing on its own , I'll wait to see who else is signed before I get all giddy like you .

Except it's not an underwhelming signing on its own. Viewed in isolation, signing a RB who was competing at the very top level last season is not underwhelming.

He's a 34 year old defender, on the last year of his contract, and he went to Juve on a free... that's why the fee is low, not because they don't rate him

I get that my point is, and always has been, that although he is a great player he isn't the long term answer and that is reflected in his fee. The others you compared him to would go for a lot more because they aren't a quick fix.

Should we be going for a quick fix or looking further ahead? Maybe we are with Maffeo. I don't know.

Yeah I suppose it's not Alves I'm opposed to but signing a short term option. Why not get two right backs that are potentially the solution for years to come?

Because we're already spending £100m on fullbacks this summer?

lets be honest, He knows the manager and the manager knows him. He just made a phenomenal season, it could work really well and It would give us time to sign a better RB or to develop. On the other hand, it could be a shitty sign but, that happens with everyone isn't it?

Some people actually think he's going to be our only RB option next season!!!!!
I'll turn that in its head though, he's still good enough to out shine a Walker or someone of the same ilk.
They may have lost but he was sensational v Madrid in the final just a few weeks back!
Absolute no brainier of a signing! What a guy to have around the club!

Fair point. We will see.

This is why I will never understand people who say don't bother about the fee as it's not your money. You have made the point that it is important because there could be a trade off and I think the same.

if we only sign the 6 players the media say were supposedly after we will still only have a squad of 20 players, pepe likes to work with a small squad by most clubs standards, 22/23, so we need more players and Alves fits that short term fix as a second right back. Remember there will be more transfer windows to perfect the squad

Yeah that's fair too. Though when I read your post and saw Pepe I did wonder....I really don't like him....just one "e" can change so much ;-)
