Bring the Noise

three games on the run now where around 3 mins into kick off and we do 5 or 6 mins of bernardo song, sounds very good, lets build on it.

after that with the foden var goal it went a bit flat and just the hard core few sang, so unless you are stood in the middle of where the singers are you don't hear it.

the second half built up a bit, wasn't to bad.

there is a nice pocket of fans near front of 115 singing, they have always but seems to be more of them lately. If that spreads to the group in the middle and back it will get going. Back of 116 are singing to. Again Guardiola song got all 4 block on it.

must say flags looked good on KO, there was 9 telescopic flags out, a small surfer and a long banner at the front. Couple of new fans grabbed a telescopic flag lately, bang on that.

It could be worse.

Imagine being an Everton fan trying to improve the atmospheres.

2 chants of.... “Everton, Everton, Everton!” In 90 minutes isn’t great.

And that’s Everton’s away support.
Goodison Park is a library as well but they don't get even half the amount of stick that we get

Everton have one of the best most consistent away followings in English football, I reckon they are just finally getting fed up of the dirge served up season upon season. Can't help that the dippers are storming the league too.

They definitely turned it down on the telly, you could hear if every now and then when the sound guy turned it up by mistake. The commentators also slammed city fans for booing at half time, then after the game restarted Beglin returned to the subject and more or less said we’re spoilt...I was waiting for one of them to click it was actually VAR being booed

I'd have thought they'd be buzzing under a new coach but probably they are a bit sceptical after a few false dawns. We weren't much better. The goal getting ruled out drained energy from the crowd.

I have read a bit of this thread, and it really does seem to be the perception of the atmosphere is dependent upon where you are sitting. I am in the Family stand and the last couple of games i think given the opposition, in Sheffield and Everton, the atmosphere has been ok, and the number of people singing seems to be increasing, maybe it is only the people in my immediate vicinity but i have noticed an increase recently.

The VAR calls did dampen the atmosphere against Everton, but there were a couple of times in the second half when the stadium seemed to be singing in unison, especially the rendition of blue moon towards the end of the match. However neither of those matched the Guardiola song against Sheffield, which he obviously appreciated as he was clapping it, not something i can say i have noticed in the past.

Yeah, you can't fault them numbers-wise. They'll fill their allocation for a midweek away at Saints no problem for example, but vocally they're quieter than us. Some of that could be to do with what you've suggested but I also think that, like us, a large part of their away match-going fanbase is an ageing one, and if many of the same faces are doing every away game then some of the novelty wears off for those fans. Meanwhile, and I don't know how they do it, United's away following is arguably the most vocal in the league and I think a lot of that is to do with tickets being in such great demand that a lot of their fans may only get to go to 4,5, or 6 aways a season and as such they make the most of it when they do go.

I look around me at a lot of aways and it's still the same loyal faces to a large extent but a lot of those fans don't tend to sing too much. However, open the allocation up further to fans who might not normally go and there's sometimes a big difference. Preston away this season was a classic case in point. It was bouncing that night and not just on the concourse either. Plenty of Preston fans commented that we were the loudest away fans they can remember, topping even those clubs in the Championship who get the full end at Deepdale such as Leeds.

Tbh they are very good points and I agree.

the bit about United fans making the most of it is true. Couple of lads I know have been successful in the Ballot twice this season and have applied for every game.

You only have to remember the atmospheres we used to generate at Blackburn and Bolton when we used to take a full away end. Preston was very good this season. We’ve had a few crackers when it’s gone down to lower points in recent years too. It’s like those who are on 12-18000 points are a bit starved of a decent away day and make the most of it when they go (which is why so many are so pissed off with the club for deciding on only having 3000 away fans for the EFL Cup semis).

Reason why Preston was good cos it was full of younger fans and not the usual crowd, our away fans are still one of the best in the league but it’s still not what it was that’s cos the club keeps giving more and more cooperate tickets away to gloryhunting tourists who will just want to take selfies. Wolves away, the club gave 150 tickets to the Norway supporters club. Also saw someone with a Houston supporter club shirt among plenty of clueless Chinese tourists. Fucking pisstake.

An easy fix for away games in terms of atmosphere would be to prioritise younger fans and also season ticket holders in the south stand and kippax corner. Don’t know how the club benefits from giving away to cooperates cos all away tickets are capped anyway

Trev (as discussed), Si, and any other 1894 members, we should get all the flags and telescopic poles out for the League Cup 2nd leg against the Rags.

And get it organised in advance so we have enough 1894 members and they know their tasks, so we can get at least one drop down banner and all the flags out. We’ve got the numbers! Just needs organising. Happy to help early doors.

Imagine if Level 1 was full of fans who wanted to sing constantly. The noise and the atmosphere would be immense.

When we’ve had bigger allocations and more younger fans like at Preston, the atmospheres been much more like that of the travelling support we see that come to our ground.
Away supports should be noisy, something special and almost tribal, but our hardcore away support are mostly 50 plus and the novelty of the away day has clearly worn off.
