Leicester City (H) Post Match Thread

I'm just watching the football show on sky and I think they got it spot on. Basically Mendy taking up the wrong positions and being caught out by the pass and nobody at the back organising the defence. We had a rookie kid and someone who has been here five minutes as our central defence and it showed. Mendy is Mendy and is finished here as far as I'm concerned. Walker should know better, you just can't put hands on players in the box, especially with var, you get away with nothing. They said we have lost the spine of the team and we have, Kompany, Silva and no Aguero, all world class players.

I hope this centre half is the real deal but we still, after all this time, need a decent left back. We need a fast, intelligent holding midfield player. Fern is 35 now and Rodri is no replacement. Since I've watched him play I'm amazed we bought him for that position. Foden has great ability but he will take time to come anywhere near Silva if he ever does. Up front we can see how vital Aguero is to us.

So praying this centre half is the real deal we need a left back, holding midfield, creative midfield and a striker. Most of us have been saying this for a couple of seasons now and nine defeats last season and yesterday's hammering are making it blindingly obvious with each passing game. We thought we'd addressed some of these by signing Rodri and Mendy but they're way short of what we need.

Rodgers tried to make himself sound a tactical genius by saying they decided not to press the keeper, but he just did what most managers do, sit back, hit us on the break and overload on our glaring weak spot which is Mendy.

Pep actually saw our problem which has been alluded to by a few here, at 1-0 we didn't have to go pushing everyone forward for a second goal against a good counter attacking side. They stayed sat back even at 1-0 and drew us in knowing they'd eventually catch us on the break and it worked perfectly, aided by absolute stupid challenges for the three penalties.

When was the last time we conceded five at home? I remember Everton at Maine Road but after that I'm struggling.

Rodri needs to look at himself before calling out the opposition. He would look world class in Spain or Italy, but he doesn't have the pace or energy to play his role in England.

It's great having good technique and being able to pick out a nice threaded pass, but in England players need to realise they don't have the time on the ball, opponents are in their faces and not scared of reputations like on the continent. Barca and Real, Juve, etc have most opponents beat the moment they turn up at the stadium. Not so here. You need pace and aggression and a determination to win at any cost.

We need a couple of midfielders decent enough at passing but who mostly get stuck in, wind up opponents and can close them down before they have a chance to pass it over our high line defence.
I dont rate him.

Far too slow, and brings nothing to the side.

Sure Pep would likely bring up Rodri passing statistics to make a point.

Fact is though 99.9% of his Ball retention, and passing,is pointless, safe side ways passing. That creates absolutely fuck all.But looks great in the OPTA stats.

He and Gundgan were an ever present, common denominator in nearly all our defeats last season.

And i bet you could go back to those games, and find the OPTA Stats from those defeats, that will say we actually dominated possession in key areas, but did fuck all with the Ball.

Even at 35 Fernandinho offers our side more than Rodri.

We should put Blinkers on Rodri see if that helps.

Arsenal

Well we’ve spanked Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Wolves recently:.. so maybe it was just a VERY bad day at the office rather than a deeper rooted problem?
And been beaten by Chelsea, Southampton, Arsenal and Lyon and now Leicester. This performance and manner of the loss is not a one off. Recurring theme. Oh and that Wilves team we “spanked” just got beaten 4:0 by West Ham.

Can we get Kompany, or Bobby Manc, back as defensive coach?
I would love Bobby Manc being in charge of transfers.

His signings were the foundations of all our success.

Without them Pep would not have achieved what he has.

Yep. been saying that for weeks now. i'd have got Doucoure in for starters.

We were shit.
The defence was shit.
The tactics were naive considering the opposition.

But its one game.
I wonder if bayern fans are being equally as reactionary to their 4-1 loss yesterday.

Put a decent pairing of Laporte and Dias in, one of jesus or aguero up top and for gods sake a LB that can defend(!) and that game goes a completely different way.
Bayern are CL champions, Super Cup winners and domestic league champions.. I suspect on that basis they will be more forgiving.

I'm sorry to say but it looks to me like Pep has taken his foot of the gas.
In recent interviews he has looked like a scared rabbit.
Something needs to happen and quick before we end up 15 points behind Liverpool.
