Winter was always going to be bad as i kept saying, it is only october , we need a refocus from the public, imagination needed to cope and get on with it

I have to admit I thought it wouldn't get to this stage again, maybe it was wishful thinking but I really thought we would keep the numbers down. Just hope the deaths don't start to escalate.

Tier two was inevitable for GM as if things are getting worse as they suspect there has to be somewhere else to go if needs be. Merseyside is clearly worse right now. And Manchester has in effect been in tier two for months so if they get escalated to tier three it rather suggests the tiers do not work. Doubt that is a question they will want to face.

In reality these are just designed to be tiers for fears.

I watched the national news at 1pm and Nottingham has the highest rate of infection. I watched the following local news and it's those dirty bastards (EFC fans excepted!) in LIverpool who are showing the highest rate. Does anyone know WhatTF is going on! Come the 6pm news we will find that it's Newcastle, no, Leeds, oh, hang on a mo, it's Liverpool!

Central Station Nightingale hospital in Manchester being prepared to reopen now (along with those in Yorkshire and the North East) tells you this is not propaganda but a genuine belief we are going to push capacity in the north west soon. The graphs showing the steep rise IN the north west of people over 65 being hospitalised shows why approaching 100 people have died in the NW over the past week from Covid.

These are not propaganda lies. They are facts .

I know its hard for some to accept the real world when it appears to deny freedoms. But life tosses you curve balls every now and again. Often though you need to be over 40 to get that if you are lucky with the years you grow up during.

But most generations face a challenge like this at some point and history judges them by how they respond.

This is the first big challenge of the internet age which has I fear a serious negative impact on the human spirit to be resilent and not believe every scare story or conspiracy that gets 1000 likes on Twitter.

It may prove to be our biggest test yet.
They were opened in March and not used.... and I’ve told on here that there’s no staff to man them when I suggested they should have sent all Covid patients directly to them and avoided infecting other hospital patients.... where have we found the staff?

Really in-depth knowledge of the fitness world their kaz.
It got pass generations fit and still does, joe wicks is now an MBE for his online sessions , it is not the same but for gods sake use your imagination , get together with the ones you go to the gym with and excercise , last time trainers from gyms did outside sessions , just work something out , we have lost our capacity to problem solve as everything is handed to us on a plate

Staff have always been available by utilising retired workers, final year students, closing non essential nhs depts and army medics

I have heard various commentators say we should 'trust' the publics innate common sense and ease restrictions. What a croc........ A significant minority of 'The great British public' are too thick ,or too selfish or just oblivious to what is asked of them just as they are to most of Society's norms.
Once it became apparent that if you're under 50 its unlikely to kill you or even make you unwell that was a licence to crack on for large swathes of the population.
That's called reality and the Government need to accept that and choose to either introduce a version of martial law lockdown to control those in society who cannot or will not follow rules or more usefully just focus resources on protecting and treating the vulnerable .

Who is going to communicate this message though? The government has tried but surely that leaves it to the local council areas but they aren't doing anything whatsoever on the subject, not a single thing.

I won't even consider the police enforcing things because I've been out a few times this weekend and not seen a single police car. It is impossible for them to enforce the rules except when the one police officer for the whole county comes across someone not doing as they should be.

We can have Boris come on at 8pm tonight to shout at us again but the viewing figures show that less than 10% of the population will watch. How do you get the message out to the other 90% who are watching another repeat of Pointless or (ironically) are in the pub?

I've just put up another post on this but there needs to be a locally led mass-communication program (leaflets, letters or whatever) which tells people preferably in a large red bold font what the rules are. There is then quite literally no excuse.
Agree with all of that. Councils do have websites with all the relevant local information, but that's fuck all use if no-one looks at them. I get a weekly email from the council as well, but again, no use if you are not on the mailing list.

This needs a leaflet drop in every household, regular public service announcement broadcasts, vans driving around with loud hailers and billboard signs. And much, much heavier fines and punishments for non-compliance.

Christ, it is a slow afternoon for you given that you have time to trawl through my historic posts (weird).

If you bothered to actually pay attention to the context of my historic post I was suggesting it is ridiculous to reward those who have already been infected with a "freedom passport" which is what was being proposed at the time.

So your consistency comment is bollocks.
Takes 30 seconds one post says if someone gets something I can't have it's wrong the other says others should be out at risk. to let me go the gym

Nottingham has had 5658 cases - less than Bolton and not much more than Wigan. Its pop score is 1699.6 Below most of the boroughs in GM.

Liverpool has 11,224 cases - less than Manchester's 12, 625 and a pop score of 2253.6 - less than Manchester;s 2283.6

So on those measures across the pandemic Manchester is worst.

But if you base it on NOW and how cases are going across the past week versus the local population Nottingham has had the biggest sudden increase and Liverpool is doing a bit worse than Manchester and Merseyside as a whole worse than Greater Manchester.

So there is no simple answer to the question. It depends what measure you use.

THe pop score based watch list (how much that has risen over 7 days) is the most reliable way to see who is currently having a problem v anyone else. And on that Nottingham has come from nowhere to be top so is very much a red watch place.

The government use this to create a watch list to consider if and when to put places under restriction but up to now wait a week or two to see if thihgs change. They mght modify that to act more swiftly now. As there are places further south starting to tick up too. The rise is moving south this time. Unlike last when it came north.

Manchester is currently the only place in GM in the top ten of that watch list and has fallen down the table steadily. LIverpool and Knowsley on Merseyside ate both ahead of it.

This is why Merseyside will be tier 3 and GM tier 2. Nottingham should be tier 3 on current numbers but might get a bit of time in tier 2 first to try to improve. Though it has a vey rapid increase so they might decide that they have to try to shut it off faster.

Staff are moving around , students are doi ng the mundane stuff to free the specialist staff up, staff that came back being called up again , juggling staff happens every single day in the nhs , there is zero point staffing empty hospitals, wasted money

Ha. Appreciate the sentiment, but football really is trivial compared to not being able to hug your mum, dad, any family or close friends etc for over half a year now!

This is the worst bit for me, and to make matters worse there's just no signs as to when such restrictions like that will end. We talking another 6 months of not going in people's houses? Another 2 or 3 weeks? A year? Haven't a clue, and in many ways the not knowing is as bad as the restrictions themselves. If there was an end date in sight we could count down to, it'd be slightly easier...altbough obviously I realise that's not realistic.
