Lock us down until Matt Hancock realises he needs to change his approach to track and trace. Without a fully functional track & trace, we are fucked. It is absolutely key. So lock us down until we sort it out, so that the cases it then has to deal with are kept to a minimum. Fuck off the private companies and invest that money on going local. Bring us out of lockdown when it’s up and running, even if it takes 2 months.

So in answer to my question you have no qualifications to call the findings of SAGE "ridiculous" whatsoever but you do so anyway. Got it.
An MSc in Astronomy and Astrophysics and I'm doing a PhD, or at least trying to when the University is effectively closed. You are mistaken if you think scientists agree on lockdowns, and what are essentially political matters.
Why do you think those highest areas in the UK are such?
Belfast and Liverpool? because they weren't as hard hit by the first wave of infection which was concentrated in London. You can see this effect globally. New York has escaped reinfection so far. London slightly less so. Clusters form through social contact. We all instinctively understand the reason why breaking social contact works but this could be a long game. You shouldn't sap peoples will and resources needlessly.

I think this discussion is informed by party political allegiance but politicians are electoral opportunists, and shouldn't be followed in these moments.

So again to reiterate you are not remotely qualified to call the proposals of SAGE "ridiculous"

Of course it will and everywhere else that shuts pubs.

The communication from the government isn't consistent and people have stopped listening and are doing their own thing.

If the government doesn’t follow their own rules, why should anyone else?

We’re totally at the mercy of the people and sadly our dickhead ratio is too high to reduce the R number.

Literally rather than allowing people these extra days to do this.

We just need an announcement at say 5pm. Saying everywhere to be shut now with immediate effect.

The French are not messing about, somehow I don't see the Met raiding Hancock's house.

From the BBC live text feed -

Police in France have searched the home of Health Minister Olivier Veran as part of an enquiry into the government’s handling of the pandemic.
He is one of several current and former health ministers being investigated into their response to the pandemic. It also includes former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe. Victims of Covid-19 accuse them of being too slow to act to check the spread of the virus. The ministry of health said in a statement that Thursday morning's search operations had taken place “without difficulty”. The legal proceedings are still ongoing.

Well my plans to watch Saturday’s Challenge Cup Final st my Dad’s have been kiboshed. A mate at the community gardening group has gone down with the virus and I’m not to go in anyone else’s house for 10 days. I probably haven’t got the virus because it was outdoors work and we weren’t working closely for 15mins but no point taking the risk.

Remember in around April time on this thread people ripping you a new one if you even suggested it was for the fairies

That's what I mean though. So many people saying different things, on here, in the media, in government, in science. A vaccine could be available this time tomorrow or by this time next year we could still be scrambling for one that works depending on what you read.

When I logged on this morning it was Bluemoon, a forum for Manchester City fans not an elitist discussion for SAGE members and specialists.
Marvin, unless you won this year's nobel prize for covid you are wasting your time. And good luck with your PhD. It's a brutal thing to do but completely worth it when you get on the other side.

It’s probably already been mentioned, and this is the one and only time I’ll praise a scouser, but the speech by the young Labour MP Dan Carden, ripping into the Tories for their multiple failures, blatant corruption, and just plain stupidity, is well worth a listen. He cares.

You're taking to true experts in these lot don't forget, they can never be wrong and anyone that disagrees with them are either right wing nut jobs or selfish youngsters.
So you are saying we should listen to unqualified people over the experts in the field employed by the government? Marvin area of expertise in in Astrophysics and Astronomy, bluejon is a data analyst. Should we believe them over the overwhelming majority of qualified scientists in the area of Epidemiology and Virology? ( and it is a overwhelming majority) If Chris Whitty said that "Pluto is sunny as fuck every Halloween" would you give it any credence?

Are we expecting political fireworks now GM has gone into Tier 3 or will be it be any 'deals' (if any) are kept in the background.
I guess this puts the kibosh on any plans to start dating again....not doing zoom dates that's for sure.
