COVID-19 — Coronavirus

As only 20% are isolating, just forcing the isolation would have worked. We’d have been far better paying people to stay at home for 7 days post positive test (or symptoms starting) than pouring billions into Serco, even though their shareholders will be happy.

In other news, just when test and trace couldn’t get any worse, it turns out that if students haven’t changed their GP, their test results are being counted in the town they used to live, not where they are. Useless doesn’t even begin to describe it...
What an interesting and probably very sensible and workable idea.

It's interesting to think that if we locked everyone up for a month, this virus would effectively be gone. Everyone who has it would either be recovered or dead, and that would be the end of it. Impractical though this might be, it's also a daft idea since the whole world would have to do it, or else one infected person comes in from overseas and it's back to square one.

Just for some perspective of how bad the UK is doing.

Around Europe, Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, Poland, Portugal, and Austria, have all had their worst days for new cases in this Pandemic, and Switzerland and Ireland their 2nd highest.

Obviously the caveat is the number of tests being done, and I don't know how to find that out, or their hospitalisation rates, but the deaths are also back on the increase in them all.
I think we're near the top of the league for testing now tbf.

Could be absolutely miles off with this, and don't want to be seen as peddling utter bullshit, but interesting to see the figures from London and New York which both had an awful first wave. Could the herd immunity threshold be much lower than the 65% or so anticipated or could the seroprevalence rate be much higher than the 10% or so estimated? As I say, only speculating and could be miles off.
Antibody testing showed 17% of Londoners had had the virus (by a few months ago) IIRC. Many of the people with the most exposed jobs, shared travel arrangements etc will have been exposed to the virus. The virus will still have millions more Londoners to infect but I guess these are harder to reach people eg people working from home, the virus hasn’t reached schools in their areas etc.

There will also be millions of people following the hands, face, space routines.

Do we think it'll be today we get a definitive answer what tier we're going to be in?

Seems pretty pointless if we're suppose to be in Tier 3 and we keep getting it postponed. Sort of defeats the purpose
There are no meetings scheduled between the Government and the Northern politicians so possibly not.

Some of my bloody neighbours have ignored all regulations so far, are they going to suddenly change?

Multiply that all around the country and the Government are pissing against the wind.

Who is going to enforce any regulations, the police do not have the manpower.
Indeed we don’t have enough police , no surprise considering consecutive Tory governments have constantly reduced the number of police officers

The tens of thousands of Covid Marshals Johnson has recruited.........hang on.......
Councils appoint them, but you knew that, just you’re 1000 times a day moan about the government.
Are you enjoying the irony of the Labour controlled councils/mayors asking for more money rather than protecting lives whilst the leader of the opposition is calling for a full lock down.

Seems such a shame that the morals of Labour have become so base they would rather use COVID for political gain than helping the population through this mess.

Fancy asking for more money , if 80% was the benchmark in March why is 67% now acceptable? So you’re happy Someone on minimum wage or close to it can be thrown under the bus while the government hands out millions to consultants and mates setting up businesses with £100 then being handed contracts they don’t even have to tender for ? It’s not just Labour mp’s and councillors, the Tory mp’s from the north are also opposed .

UK Vaccine plans emerging. 50/50 for December.

NHS Pulse

There's no new data, there's no reason whatever to be more or less optimistic than a week ago. I wouldn't argue with 50:50, but there's nothing new in there on vaccine success.

Hopefully (though don't hold your breath given the utter shitshow this govt is) there is a huge planning exercise for logistics to vaccinate the whole population as soon as practicable on the assumption the trial(s) read positive.

I really can't see it, the only thing that makes me feel a bit positive on this is the fact that we are increasing the lockdown restrictions when there are relatively low deaths and the hospital survival rate is now near 90%. Unless they had a good idea that it was close I don't think they would be putting these restrictions in.

The data on infection outcomes is blinded but at least the authorities are making serious plans.

JJ suspension was significant. Similar methodology to the Oxford vaccine. That needs clearing up.

Ive also heard from someone itk that it is likley a vaccine will be offered to those first in line later this year! Fingers crossed this is true. I think we all need some good news.

Later this year? There are less than 12 weeks left of 2020 so they will need to pull their finger out.....
