Talk of putting us in a curfew between 12:00am and 6am in next week.
What a huge fucking difference that will make! Haha! You hardly see a soul on the streets at 11pm atm so no idea of what problem they are trying to solve with this one.
Halloween is cancelled though so not all bad..

Just me that doesn't see these case figures slowing much at all? I mean, maybe ever so slightly but it's very unusual for Sturgeon to suggest there might be positives when she's been pretty realistic from the start of this.
 
Nicola Sturgeon adds that there HAS been evidence of average cases per week decreasing.

She adds "The rate of increase appears to be slowing down and that gives cause for cautious optimism"

And that the biggest impact in reducing numbers comes from not mixing in one anothers homes.

She cited the week to week percentages over past two weeks (I do the week to week to week comparisons here every day so you can check back). They do show a slowing of the rise in cases as we have discussed in here.

Not an actual fall. Just a reduction in the size of the increase.

That is exactly what we have discussed here as potentially happening and that she noted with caution as trends can - of course - change.
 
2 wks ago v last wk v this week in Scotland

1246 cases v 1196 v 1401 - that is certainly not a big rise in two weeks

6 deaths v 9 deaths v 18 deaths - but deaths will be the last number to change sadly

Patients 397 v 629 v 975 - this is still the 50% increase we are seeing in England too. And has to be the next number to watch for a platuea or fall.

Ventilators 33 v 58 v 76 - again like England increasing but not at the same rate as patients. Which is good news. And will hopefully minimise coming death numbers.
 
Nicola explains in answer to question from Border TV about two sets of rules in an area where people cross the border every day between England and Scotland in now two very different sets of rules.

The 3 tiers needed a lower level as the lowest in England is medium and already severe and people need an obtainable goal of normality to aim to achieve.

And there has to be a higher level as the governments own scientists say tier three is not strict enough (as it obviously isnt) so there has to be a top level for where things are in urgent need of being restrained.

As for confusion over different rules in Scotland and England she noted that there are different rules in North West England about travelling in and out of Manchester or from Chester to Wales.

In his speech last night he only mentioned US vaccines and said some vague stuff about getting some help from Europe too.

This will be sold as America saving the world from China at whatever price they want to charge the world to be saved - if he is is still president that is.
 
The chief scientist advising the French government has said this second wave is spreading faster than the first around Europe. Have we just let down our guard? Is it because our restrictions now are less severe than in the early days? Is the virus more infective but less deadly perhaps? Or all three.
 
Any scientists here know about the trial on the drug ravulizumab? Some seem to be saying this is being used to stop the over reaction in the immune system that was a big problem in the first wave and in trials going on at London, Birmingham, Leeds and Cambridge hospitals is seeing patients on the brink of death making near miraculous recoveries.

Is this an over reaction by the Daily Telegraph or is there truth in it?

The threat from China seeking world domination is far more tangible than it was 30 years ago and has nothing to do with covid and vaccines.

in Australia that threat is real now.

Protect your family as best you can from covid for sure and apply practical steps to do so but China is where this virus first got traction is another matter all together.

Yeah I mentioned earlier that talk of us in Spain being put in a 12am to 6am curfew was ongoing.
Honestly don’t see what problem they are trying to solve when you only have to see how quiet the streets are right now.
