Pretty obvious we cant restrict this virus, its rampant in nearly every country. Seems to have become more contagious, based on the fact that its spreading rapidly including in Sweden, a country that hasnt really changed what it was doing and Germany a country where the people generally follow the rules well.
Lockdowns appear to be just delaying the inevitable, which sadly seems to be that we are all going to get it sooner or later.

The rate at which we get it is imperative though to give our medical services the best chance of saving as many lives as possible.

When we talk of Sweden we aren't actually talking of Sweden, we are really talking about local areas in Sweden where the virus is spreading. When outbreaks start you can pinpoint them down to areas or even single events such as parties. Over there they are identifying around 1,000 cases a day which is just about the same size as a large village or small town, it's almost irrelevant, they are probably where we were 2/3 months ago.

There is actually no second wave here in the UK. What's actually happening is wave 1 was in the south and the north was protected from that by the lockdown back in March. After that reset the virus demographic changed because different people in different places caught it and that gives us wave 1 in the north which is underway today.

This wave will kill just as many as it did in March and without travel restrictions it will make it's way south and continue to spread like wildfire. It's a bit like weeds in your garden, you can pull them out 1 by 1 (controlling spread locally) or you can get a shredder and shred them to bits (national lockdown). Shredding gets rid of the weeds for a period but then all of the shredded bits will start growing again.

The only effective way to control the virus as of where we are today is to full scale lockdown to reset the figures and then start again from zero at the local level. The local level is where track and trace becomes so important but clearly it hasn't worked for whatever reason.

The interesting thing about control at the local level is if we could identify almost all cases daily then everyone else outside of those areas can go back to normal, that's what's happening in China etc.

some good thoughts, right up until you used China as an example. Then you lost me as I dont think anyone really believes the figures coming out of China. They couldnt care less about human lives, the numbers are clearly made up by a ruthless dictatorship hanging on to power.

Give me some evidence for COvid in China. If there was an epidemic there it would be obvious and all over the western media. They have spy planes, and satellites everywhere and the Chinese economy would be in crisis. There are plenty of westerners in China and plenty of Chinese who travel from China to the Uk, families etc. Your claims are not credible.

There seems a decent chance that a vaccine could be rolled out to front line health workers by early in the new year. If that could be followed by giving the vaccine to the elderly by March / April then things could be a lot closer to normality by the time the decent weather comes back round.

Obviously, there are no guarantees but they’re is a bit of encouragement.

The vaccine news always seems to follow a bad week for Boris
Whenever deaths go up, apps don’t work, kids go hungry the vaccine news comes out
It was due in September, then end of year, then spring

The September date for the Oxford vaccine was on the proviso that all 3 stages of trials went perfectly. The scientists on here say th never happens IIRC so the September date always seems to have been wishful thinking and I don’t think they included time for roll out.

I don’t know about vaccine news always seeming to coincide with a bad week for Boris. That wouldn’t be too difficult as he hasn’t had many good weeks for a few months.

People are going to have to tough this out and makes the. Best of a bad situation for at least the next few months. After all, we did it in the Spring when restrictions were tougher.

There are numerous articles from a wide range of science based news organisations questioning the covid data coming out from the Chinese dictatorship.

And you still believe they have only had 85790 confirmed cases and 4634 deaths due to covid?? Wow.

Nearly every country in the world has and is experiencing a second wave, but China isnt. They couldnt care less about discent and human life as long as their econony is growing and their are no threats to their leadership.

I think it is your claim that is not credible Mr Xi Jinping!

China has had a second wave and shut down areas constantly the last few months.

Plus most of your evidential articles are from April and mainly when many theories were thrown about and questioning of figures.

China will more likely be fudging the numbers, but many are tbf

And considering many at the start here bemoaned their draconian and brutal lockdown measures and you compare many asian nations that took it serious from the start the numbers of cases and deaths are low and don't match up if you use one measure for average rates per population.

I really don't get why people care what china are doing, once the virus hit our shores it doesn't matter what others are doing or not doing.

Only the failure of us to control and contain it here matters which we are completely useless at.

Sorry you are missing the point. Inbetween used China as an example of what could be achieved. I merely stated that you cannot accept their figures as reliable, where as Marvin countered and said they were reliable.

It doesnt matter when the articles were published they proved my point. If they wernt credible then what makes you suddenly think they are accurate now?? There is clearly little credibility in any of the figures coming from the corrupt Chinese regime.

You don't know if they are accurate just as much as I don't know they are not.

Personally I think most have got numbers wrong amd some countries played down their infection rates, china are probably just ine if many.

It really doesn't matter, won't stop the fuck ups here.

You are clearly entitled to believe whatever you want. I just presented evidence to back up my claim. Your second point is valid but irrelvent to the debate about accuracy. Have a good day.

I’m as hopeful as everyone else about a vaccine it I just think it is being used a little as a tool to say look follow the rules for two months and the vaccine will be here soon
But when it isn’t we will hear the same message
