Political relations between UK-EU

The EU will seek an extension to the deadline by which the free trade agreement with the UK must be ratified, according to RTE.

We‘ve already seen the UK will pass any old tat, irrespective of its merits, so it gives space for the rest of Europe to see if they can squeeze out any additional benefits.

Two sources have said member states want to extend the deadline from the end of Feb to some time in April. Member states are keen to get a greater understanding of the governance aspect of the treaty, especially the circumstances in which retaliatory action can be taken if there is a breach of the level playing field provisions.

National capitals are also pressing to have a more assertive role in deciding if the level playing field provisions have been breached.’ @RTE

You have some uncultured dumb mates is all that proves, and some couldn’t be arsed to reply to you!
Really?

Well - coming from you and given the manner in which the content of your posts reflect your view of 'culture and education' - that is a real put down.

TBF to those that did not reply - well the groups are really 2 groups of golfing mates - they may have had other things to do on a Sunday morning (obviously not golf at the moment though)

Statement by the Scottish Seafoods...basically they need the new rules we agreed to with the EU be suspended. Which ain’t going to happen. The EU will have no interest or incentive to do this.

No not thick
Just not deluded like some of the people on here.
Amazes me that we have so many cultured, sophisticated know it all experts on this football forum.
In reality I think a lot may just have google
I spoke too soon yesterday - saying that they had dispensed with using 'thick'

The reality here is that the seafood industry needs to back in the SM/CU which is where we effectively were in December. what has changed is the Tory brexit plan has been implemented and it contains the kind of provisions that Toryies denied it would for years, and unlike our BS tory government the EU nations are taking it seriously and are actually implementing what BJ negotiated and signed up to. Its destroying businesses as many people predicted. Seafood is very immediate but some types of farming / manufacturing will not be far behind.

Think I’d have an axe to grind if I saw so many obstacles hampering my business whether I’d voted leave or remain. Do you think the Scottish fishermen have an axe to grind or a reasonable complaint?
'An axe to grind' ?
If my business went tits up due to new brexit rules i would be fucking fuming, and i'd bet the poster who said that would be too.

Yeah, fishing industry needs SM/CU to survive. It won’t get it. The industry is fucked. But then the industry did say this in 2016

Bertie Armstrong, chief executive of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation, said that leaving the EU would give fleets “the ability to recover proper, sustainable, rational stewardship through our own exclusive economic zone for fisheries”, comparing the situation with Norway and Iceland, which share many key North Sea fishing grounds and are not members of the EU, though they are in the European Economic Area (EEA).‘

Brexit would be fine for pretty much everyone if the UK had then done the bit in bold. They didn‘t. The industry is fucked.

It’s a bit like the DUP, keen as mustard on Brexit, but no understanding of trade, the EU, the EEA or reality.

It's the lack of unicorn revealing itself. Turns out you cant leave the SM and CU and still retain all the benefits. Something has to give.

Farming won’t be far behind, but many sectors will follow. The hospitality sector will probably see the worst effects masked this summer as it suffers with covid restrictions, however it too will eventually suffer too.

Reuters: PM: £23m fund for fishing industry.

That will keep it afloat for a couple of weeks...nothing says ‘Brexit will be great!’, then bunging an industry cash to keep it afloat.

Why would that be a surprise to anyone?

“It’s a great deal, the best, there are no barriers to trade with our nearest and biggest market, Britain can now look forward and prosper mightily!”

Two weeks in: “Here’s £23m to keep your industry afloat. Anyone else? Okay, form an orderly queue, plenty of Govt dosh for everyone.”
